DESCRIPTION: Lake Area Technical College is seeking a motivated and knowledgeable Trap Shooting Coach to lead and develop our collegiate trap shooting team. The coach will provide instruction mentorship and oversight of student-athletes in accordance with the rules and regulations of the USA Clay Target League and the colleges standards for student engagement and success.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Lead and manage all aspects of the trap shooting program including practices competitions equipment oversight and team logistics.
- Provide instruction in trap shooting techniques firearm safety and sportsmanship.
- Ensure compliance with USA Clay Target League rules regulations and score reporting.
- Coordinate with the Campus Life Director on schedules student eligibility travel needs and promotional opportunities.
- Promote a team-oriented environment that supports student development both on and off the range.
- Maintain a safe shooting environment and uphold all firearm safety standards.
- Serve as a positive role model and mentor for student-athletes.
- Support recruiting efforts and outreach to prospective student-athletes.
- Develop and implement strategies to build and promote the trap shooting team at Lake Area Technical College.
- Manage and supervise all trap shooting activities contests and practice sessions emphasizing individual growth in skills teamwork discipline respect and sportsmanship.
- Mentor and develop clear expectations for assistant coaches while working toward a common goal.
- Act as a team representative and promote the sport by communicating with the news media service clubs and other organizations.
- Hold preseason meetings with all student-athletes before the first official contest.
- Develop a regular practice schedule and organize practice time to provide both individual and team development.
- Apply and enforce student discipline during contests and practice sessions both on and off campus.
- Encourage sportsmanlike conduct in all phases of participation at all times.
- Oversee and works alongside the Campus Life Director & Dean of Student services to manage the programs budget providing regular feedback on equipment needs updates and maintenance.
- Collaborate with on-campus departments including the Center of IT Lake Area Tech Foundation Marketing and Communications departments.
- Stay informed about changes and best practices in the trap shooting community ensuring adherence to rulebooks Codes of Conduct and compliance with associated leagues and affiliates.
- Ensure all persons and functions of the program exemplify the character and values of Lake Area Technical College.
- Maintain records to ensure compliance with the college and league.
REPORTS TO: Campus Life Coordinator Dean of Student Services Vice President
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Coaching or teaching experience preferred along with experience in recruiting highschool or college students.
- Certification in firearm safety or coaching from a recognized body (e.g. NRA USA Clay Target League Coaching Certification).
- Familiarity with score submission on league platforms.
- Evening and weekend hours may be required during the season.
- Outdoor practices and competitions in varying weather conditions.
- Must be able to lift and carry equipment and assist with setup/teardown of shooting stations.
- Possible travel for team tournaments and recruiting will be required.
- A valid drivers license and ability to travel
When: Fall & Spring Semester
Stipend: $3000 per semester
