POSITION SUMMARY

Under minimal to no supervision performs the duties of a Public Safety Acting Lead Officer for the Public Safety department. Will implement the skills and knowledge learned from current department training practices and procedures including all formal training and experience to emphasize the use of coaching mentoring instructional skills and intervention. The Public Safety Acting Lead officer will provide leadership motivation communication and techniques such as professionalism and ethics the criminal justice system laws of arrest search and seizures arrest methods and defense tactics investigative report writing crime scene/evidence/forensics controlled substances traffic enforcement traffic collision and investigation patrol techniques and gang awareness.

Candidate in this category will be required to remain up to date on penal code revisions updates changes etc. In addition candidate will be expected to take continuing education courses training and seminars relating to law enforcement if an offer of employment is made. This is a high-level position that will require this level of training at all times while employed with the department. The candidate in this position may also be required to provide supervisory leadership in the event the Shift Supervisor is off-site for any reason or is unavailable at any time.

This position requires the full understanding and activate participation in fulfilling the mission of Martin Luther King Jr. Community Hospital (MLKCH). It is expected that the employee will demonstrate behavior consistent with the core values of the hospital. The employee shall support Martin Luther King Jr. Community Hospitals strategic plan and the goals and direction of the quality and performance improvement process activities therein.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Shift leadership role in the absence of the Shift Supervisor
  2. Participates in facility wide training on behalf of the Public Safety Department and in coordination with the VIWP instructor
  3. Conduct vehicle and foot patrol procedures in order to assure a safer more secure environment for our employees physicians patients and guests
  4. Assist with departmental in-service notifications implementations and observations
  5. Attendance monitoring and documentation of assigned shift employees
  6. Provide insight on departmental policy review
  7. Provide timely responses to calls for service
  8. Comprehensive radio communications proficiency
  9. Ensuring command center security is alert and uncompromised
  10. Incident investigations of all minor and major facility interactions including all criminal investigations
  11. Completion of all assigned reports daily logs and required forms in orer to assure timely and complete documentation of security department activity
  12. Participates in departmental new hire training program
  13. Provides high quality professional services to employees patients physicians and guests in and around the hospital facility to assure continuous flow of information in and out of the command center to all appropriate security personnel and emergency agencies
  14. Conducts his/herself in a professional manner consistent with the authority of the job
  15. Maintain knowledge skills and ability to perform all assigned computer functions within the command center in order to assure continuous service to the hospital facility for ID badges surveillance as well as clerical software
  16. Reporting safety violations to appropriate leadership or department personnel
  17. Assisting hospital personnel with disruptive and non-compliant patient restraints as requested by medical personnel
  18. Safety and security response to all audible fire alarms within the hospital facility
  19. Access control at assigned posts
  20. Expanded knowledge of the CCTV system and checkpoint system in addition to clerical software and ability to effectively monitor all surveillance cameras
  21. Document investigative information regarding complaints against Public Safety staff in addition to hospital staff and ensure all incidents are categorized appropriately
  22. Maintain external relationship with local state and federal law enforcement agencies
  23. Other duties as assigned by a Public Safety Supervisor or above

POSITION REQUIREMENTS

A. Education

  1. High school diploma or equivalent certification required.
  2. Completion of a Law Enforcement POST-Training Regular Basic Course Academy with valid proof of certification or completion of the Basic Course Modular Format constitutes satisfaction of the Regular Basic Course is preferred.
    • Training requirement is delivered in a three-level instructional sequence. Successful completion of the Module III (144 hours) Module II (189 hours) and Module I (394 hours) with valid proof of certification required.
  3. A Bachelor of Arts (BA) or Bachelor of Science (BS) Degree in Administration of Justice/Criminal Justice is also preferred.
  4. Extensive work history in the field of public safety/security/law enforcement and or military may be considered in lieu of education and POST certification however the Public Safety leadership team will make the determination what experience level may be accepted.
  5. Training in cultural diversity or sensitivity a plus.

B. Qualifications/Experience

  1. Valid CA guard card required.
  2. Current CPI certification (instructor or participant) or must obtain within 90 days of hire.
  3. 1 to 3 years minimum experience working in health care environment specifically Public Safety/Security
  4. Current AHA Basic Life Support certification required. CPR acceptable for the first 60 days of employment.
  5. Military experience with an emphasis in military police a plus
  6. Excellent guest relations skills required
  7. Computer literacy required
  8. Expertise conducting complex investigations
  9. Experience conducting interviews and obtaining investigative information for report writing
  10. Ability to provide detailed reports of collected data and findings
  11. Strong attention to detail with commitment to accuracy and quality

C. Special Skills/Knowledge

  1. Demonstrated commitment to a strong service orientation
  2. Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  3. John E Reid technique of investigation and interrogation completion a plus
  4. Understanding of CCTV footage collection sensitivity and follow-up
  5. Ability to work under pressure and to maintain efficiency and composure in sensitive situations
  6. Experience with Microsoft Office
  7. Ability to type 50 words or more a minute
  8. Ability to establish and maintain cooperative and harmonious working relationships
