Job Description

We are seeking a passionate experienced and team-oriented teacher to join us in our mission to build confidence success and purpose through transformative learning experiences. The Lower School Teacher plans organizes and implements appropriate instructional programs in a learning environment that guides and encourages students to develop and fulfill their academic potential.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:
  • Delivering researched-based individualized teaching for each student focused on outcomes.
  • Utilizing Orton-Gillingham and Wilson Language Programs.
  • Planning and preparing learning activities for a balanced program of instruction and demonstration.
  • Providing an environment and culture in the classroom that engages students and helps them learn more effectively.
  • Implementing key components of a Groves Academy education such as strong relationship development with students knowledge of the student learning profiles evidence-based decision-making and differentiation.
  • Designing and adapting instruction to meet a range of student learning needs and interests encouraging students creative expression incorporating student interests and passions and developing critical thinking skills.
  • Communicating with parents on a regular basis by email or phone conferences and progress report writing.
  • Participating in professional development opportunities.
  • Upholding the Characteristics of Teacher Excellence at Groves Academy.
SECONDARY RESPONSIBILITIES
  1. Provides information to supervisors co-workers and parents by telephone in written form e-mail or in person.
  2. Attends annual training sessions as required.
  3. Performs miscellaneous projects and completes various tasks as requested by Division Directors
Qualifications
  • BA/BS degree in education required
  • Training in Orton-Gillingham Wilson Language Programs preferred
  • Experience teaching in the area of LD/ADHD highly preferred
  • An intuitive teaching ability and the adaptability to serve students with diverse needs
  • Training and Licensure in Special Education is desirable

  • Knowledge of and sensitivity to the special needs of students.
  • Able to treat each student with respect fairness flexibility and in a professional manner.
  • Demonstrate commitment to diversity equity and inclusion through continuous development and modeling inclusive behaviors.
  • Able to use appropriate technology including MS Office software (Word and Excel) Internet communication systems online grading systems and assistive technology.
  • Able to select and use training/instructional methods and procedures appropriate for the situation when teaching new things.
  • Able to clearly and effectively communicate information and ideas in writing verbally and using a variety of media so students will understand.
  • Able to listen to and understand information and ideas presented through spoken words written material multimedia and audiovisual sources.
  • Understand and maintain the confidential nature of student organization and employee information including and in accordance with HIPAA regulations.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS NECESSARY TO PERFORM THIS JOB
Incumbent must be able to:
  • Hear speak and effectively verbally communicate in the English language including following oral and written instructions in order to communicate with people inside and outside the organization.
  • Sit at a desk for extended periods of time and perform long hours of work sitting at a computer.
  • Stand or sit for extended periods of time and perform long hours of work teaching in the classroom.
  • Apply manual dexterity and visual acuity for computer keyboarding and office equipment use and to review detailed reports and information.
  • Move around the school office area playground and field trip locations repeatedly throughout the day.
TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT USED
Staff members must be able to use computers telephones photocopiers scanners Smart Boards adaptive equipment and related office and educational equipment.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
The work environment is usually indoors; however there is exposure to inclement weather when outdoors on school grounds or accompanying students on field trips.
