ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
HYPERBARIC STAFF NURSE
Must complete an approved 40 hour entry level hyperbaric educational program. Must have the ability and knowledge to perform assessment of patients and treatments required for Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT). Knowledge of TEED scale of the ears related to assessment and preventing barotrauma. Knowledge of potential complications and interventions related to oxygen toxicity barotrauma pneumothorax and anxiety conditions related to HBOT.
Clinical Management - The RN demonstrates clinical managerial competency by planning organizing and managing assigned personnel and resources to provide high quality cost effective care in the following manner:
Assists with management functions on unit handling complaints counseling staff and facilitates staff education activities (i.e. orientation competency skill reviews and mandatory in servicing). Provides input to annual performance reviews of assigned staff. Coordinates physicians clinical personnel and appropriate resources to ensure quality service and outcomes and enhanced patient flow in wound care and HBO while promoting efficiency in the department day-to-day operations. Participates in the review of clinical operations and preparation of required reports. Implements annual clinical continuous quality improvement plans. Operates within approved program budgets and reports variances to Director of Wound Management. Continuously seeks out training for advancing clinical and supervisory skills. Analyzes and recommends to Director of Wound Management needs and trends for staffing procedures equipment and training. Maintains documentation for regulatory agencies. Maintains a working knowledge of pertinent reimbursement issues necessary to communicate with patients physicians and payers. Facilitates proper billing of service. Kronos payroll system responsibilities.
Patient Care - The RN demonstrates an advanced level of clinical skills and the ability to assist others to achieve quality care skills in the following manner:
Demonstrates and assists others in advanced clinical care skills. Demonstrates advanced knowledge of diagnostic data related to wound care and HBO. Reviews and discusses Continuous Quality Improvement system; gathering and reviewing data with Program Director and Medical Director and assists in quality improvement of patient care. Ensures provision of quality care through the adherence to the plan of care in accordance with programs clinical guidelines and HBO protocols. Implements and evaluates appropriate nursing and medical diagnoses goal development outcome criteria and target dates. Participates in the Wound Management Centers delivery of personalized efficient care with respect for patients spiritual and/or cultural differences and taking on patient advocate role protecting all patient rights and demonstrates competence in patient and family would care education. Instructs and monitors staff in ordered treatments vital signs capillary blood sugars vascular assessments wound assessments clean and sterile technique dressings and administration of pharmaceuticals. Possesses knowledge of compression therapy offloading and interventions related to wound healing and demonstrates the use of equipment such as hand held Doppler cast removal saw and negative wound pressure therapy equipment. Verbalizes knowledge of underlying comorbidities and how they affect wound healing Demonstrates knowledge and ability to use proper body mechanics; instructing others as needed. Demonstrates knowledge of appropriate products used for pain managements and other interventions related to pain. Performs complete patient assessment appropriately including photography of wounds. Initiates/follows unit and hospital specific protocols and procedures related to hand hygiene and fall prevention. Participates in new programs and treatment options as developed. Performs and documents patient consultations in hospital. Teaches patients staff and physicians without hesitation using diplomacy and communication skills.
Management Skills - The RN possesses planning skills necessary for efficient program operations and high quality patient care; has organizational skills required to prioritize a high level of work output stressful rapidly changing environment as demonstrated in the following manner:
Maintains a working knowledge of the database clinical data input reports troubleshooting and general policies and procedures for wound care and HBO. Manages and develops clinical staff functions activities and appropriate patient care assignments on a day-to-day basis and reports problems to Director of Wound Management Maintains clinical supply inventory. Monitors and educates staff on safety education hazardous waste CPR body mechanics infection control exposure control emergency adverse reaction reporting fire and disaster planning. Functions as a change agent to improve the work environment work process and patient care. Cross trains in all roles in the center and fills those roles as is needed.
Communication - The RN demonstrates clear accurate concise and timely written and oral communications in the roles of supervisor professional nurse and RN case manager in the following manner:
Demonstrates competent utilization of interview examinations and observation techniques. Follows proper channels of communication anticipating and consistently handling daily routine problems and resolves conflicts in a positive manner dealing directly with the person there is conflict with and referring appropriate issue to Director of Wound Management. Communicates regularly with Director of Wound Management and Medical Director. Documents clearly legibly using approved abbreviations. Monitors professional communications between referral sources and all Hospital staff to maintain quality coordination of care and high community profile. Communicate effectively with professional or community education groups to promote positive Hospital relations.
NETWORK RESPONSIBILITIES
Maintains confidentially of all materials handled within the Network/Entity as well as the proper release of information. Complies with Network and departmental policies regarding attendance and dress code and issues of employee patient and environmental safety and follows appropriate reporting requirements. Demonstrates/models the Networks Service Excellence Standards of Performance in interactions with all customers (internal and external) as well as Performance Improvement in the following areas:
Clinical Care/Outcomes Customer/Service Improvement Operational System/Process and Safety.
Demonstrates financial responsibilities and accountability through the effective and efficient use of resources in daily procedures processes and practices. Contributes to achievement of the Mission Values and Vision of the organization.

PHYSICIAL AND SENSORY REQUIREMENTS:
Sitting for up to 2 hours per day; 1 hour at a time. Standing for up to 8 hours per day; 4 hours at a time. Walk 6 hours per day; 10 minutes at a time. Consistently lift carry and push objects up to ten pounds. Frequently lift carry and push objects up to 75 pounds. Transport patients weighing up to 250 lbs. via wheelchair bed and/or stretcher with assistance when appropriate. Consistently pull up to 10 lbs. Frequently pull up to 250 lbs. with assistance when appropriate. Frequently stoop bend crouch kneel and climb. Frequently reach above shoulder level. Occasional crawling. Must be able to perceive attributes of an object through touch. Frequently finger and handle objects. Occasionally firmly grasp twist and turn objects with hands and fingers. Must be able to hear as it relates to normal conversation and high and low frequencies. Must be able to see as it relates to general near far color and peripheral vision depth perception and visual monotony (e.g. computer screen).
POTENTIAL ON-THE-JOB RISKS:
At risk for cuts and punctures being confined to small spaces slippery surfaces assault and battery radiation chemical and biohazards injuries from operating machinery burns and back injuries.
Employees who work in patient care areas where they may have potential exposure to patients with suspected or proven tuberculosis (TB) must have the ability to wear a particulate respirator and be fit-tested in compliance with the current recommendations from the CDC (enforced by OSHA) or must provide physician documentation as to the inability to wear a particulate respirator.
SPECIFIC PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT AVAILABLE:
Follow MSDS and OSHA precautions for exposure to physical biological and chemical hazards.
MOST COMPLEX DUTY:
Coordination of care utilizing critical thinking skills. Provide leadership for the unit-based team.
SUPERVISION (RECEIVED BY AND/OR GIVEN TO):
Supervised by the Regional Manager
Provides direction to the unit-based team on a daily basis.
COMMUNICATIONS:
Must be able to communicate with other departments patients families the community and medical staff.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
EDUCATION:
Registered Nurse with current license to practice in the state in which they work (PA or NJ).
Bachelor of Science in Nursing or in health-related field preferred upon hire or required within 5 years upon obtaining the position (progression toward goal will be evaluated annually).
TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:
Two years experience in unit specialty preferred.
Evidence of successful completion of BLS.
Wound Certification preferred.
WORK SCHEDULE:
Day shift with varying hours based on the needs of the department.
