Amazon Web Services (AWS) is a highly reliable scalable low-cost infrastructure platform in the cloud that powers hundreds of thousands of enterprise government and start-up business and organizations in over 190 countries around the world.
AWS Finance seeks a Finance Manager to support AWS Applied AI Solutions Core Services a portfolio of services that occupy the middle layer in a software stack - providing services for AWS internal and external customers to build their end applications. This position will work closely with senior finance management and key business partners to drive product/service pricing cost and capital expenditure optimization financial planning decision support and controllership.
Key job responsibilities
- Support Core Services P&Ls and influence business decisions that drive revenue and/or capital expenditures
- Take the lead in financial planning and analysis; build and maintain complex financial models and analytical tools to measure overall financial performance including short and long range financial/operational forecasts and communicate results to senior management
- Support modeling efforts for pricing decisions and cost savings initiatives
- Maintain controllership of the business: ensure all financial fundamentals are correct and accurate such as billing cost allocation and financial presentation
- Analyze new business ideas make analytical judgments and provide data intensive analyses to drive meaningful change
A day in the life
A typical day in Core Services Finance will include a number of activities such as:
- Presenting a document you prepared on your services AWS infrastructure spending where you have segmented costs and pointed out variances from expectation that represent opportunity. You have found one particular item that looks promising and have calculated cost savings from a hypothetical 10% reduction in usage.
- You are preparing monthly financial review document for your service and notice a large amount of usage and revenue coming from a new customer. You engage Product Management to understand the customers use case and see if this represents a new opportunity with similar customers.
About the team
AWS Applied AI Solutions Core Services Finance is a team of dedicated professionals who provide analytical and controllership support for a key AWS investment area.
- 5 years of tax finance or a related analytical field experience
- Bachelors degree in finance accounting business economics or a related analytical field (e.g. engineering math computer science)
- 6 years of solving complex business challenges by delivering accurate and timely financial models analysis and recommendations that have a proven impact on business (e.g. financial savings operational improvements or customer benefits) experience
- MBA or CPA
- Knowledge of SQL/ETL
- Experience working with large-scale data mining and reporting tools (examples: SQL MS Access Essbase Cognos) and other financial systems (examples: Oracle SAP Lawson JD Edwards)
- Experience delivering forecasting budgeting and variance analysis and data interpretation of results
- 6 years of applying key financial performance indicators (KPIs) to analyses experience
- 6 years of building financial and operational reports/data sets that inform business decision-making experience
- 6 years of participating in continuous improvement projects in your team to scale and improve controllership with measurable results experience

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $85900/year in our lowest geographic market up to $179500/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge skills and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company. Dependent on the position offered equity sign-on payments and other forms of compensation may be provided as part of a total compensation package in addition to a full range of medical financial and/or other benefits.
