Purpose: The Maintenance Worker maintains school buildings and grounds in top condition to ensure full and productive use of district facilities. To accomplish these tasks the Building and Grounds Maintenance Worker must work closely with the staff and administration of USD 506.

Qualifications:
- High School diploma or equivalent
- Experience in various maintenance areas.
- Ability to work independently without supervision.
- Ability to understand chemical labels.
- Valid commercial drivers license (CDL) or the ability to obtain a CDL.
- Must be able to successfully pass pre-employment physical drug and alcohol tests and background check.
- Desire to continue career improvement.
Essential Functions:
- Maintain school buildings and grounds in optimum condition to ensure full and productive use of district facilities.
- Ensure that all activities conform to district guidelines.
- Communicate effectively with members of the school district and community.
- React to change productively and handle other tasks as assigned.
- Appropriately operate all equipment and machinery as necessary.
- Support the value of an education.
- Observe district policies at all times.

Physical Requirements/Environmental Conditions:
- Requires prolonged sitting or standing.
- Requires physical exertion to manually move lift carry pull or push heavy objects or materials.
- Requires stooping kneeling crawling bending turning and reaching.
- Requires climbing and balancing.
- Must work indoors and outdoors year-round.
- Must work in noisy and crowded environments.
- Must work in and around dust fumes and odors.
General Responsibilities:
- Assist in maintaining school buildings and grounds in optimum condition.
- Assist in promoting the safety health and comfort of students and employees in school buildings and grounds.
- Maintenance and repair projects to be completed in a professional manner and to be of a high standard of safety cleanliness and efficiency.
- Perform maintenance repair and installation in connection with:
- Electrical plumbing HVAC systems carpentry and boilers
- Exterior and interior of buildings
- School grounds
- Transport equipment and materials within and between school buildings as requested.
- Work overtime when emergencies arise in order to prevent disruption of the schools.
- Maintain all equipment properly.
- Keep abreast of new information innovative ideas and techniques.
- Observe district policies at all times.
- Adhere to all district health and safety policies including all precautions of the Bloodborne pathogens Exposure Control Plan.
- Other duties as assigned by the Maintenance Foreman or Supervisor of Facility Maintenance.
