The Family and Community Engagement (FACE) unit provides support and leadership regarding lived experience expertise and best practices in community engagement for the Colorado Department of Human Services (CDHS) related to all Department and state-agency level community activities initiatives and efforts. This work unit reports to the Chief Access Officer. The scope of responsibilities for this work unit includes partnership and collaboration with facilities across the CDHS offices divisions facilities across the state other state agencies counties community organizations clients/patients families and other partners.

Summary of the position:

This position is an individual contributor and supports the departments efforts to engage families and communities across Colorado ensuring access to human services and meaningful involvement in shaping programs and policies. Working independently with guidance from the Family and Community Engagement Manager the Family Advisor provides expertise advising and training on family and community engagement strategies and best practices to improve communications programs and services for children youth clients patients grantees and families. This position operates independently in performing a full range of tasks. The work of this position requires the use of discretion and creativity within the limits of theory and principles of community engagement and lived experience expertise; program objectives; law and regulations; and general Department systems and guidelines. Judgment is used in the adaptation and skilled application of guidelines to solve problems related to advancing lived experience expertise and meaningful community engagement. This position must anticipate and analyze the impact and consequences of decisions made. This position serves as a resource to others. This position must use appropriate judgment and creativity to ensure that individuals and communities most affected can participate and influence decision-making. The role involves coordinating and enhancing the CDHS Family Voice Council (FVC) for current and alumni members including coaching FVC presenters to ensure productive discussions and actionable feedback. As a resource with lived experience the Family Advisor recommends plain and accessible language for all client- and family-facing communications. They provide training consultation and coaching to state local regional and national partners on effective community engagement strategies and collaborate with internal and external partners to promote best practices in meaningful and effective health and human services and programming. A foundational understanding of human services and lived experience is essential. This position requires creating and maintaining accessible materials and prioritizing access in all decision-making to support staff and communities statewide. Noting new

processes or objectives will require approval of unit management and/or appointing authority and/ or the agency within programs and/or the state health and human services system.

Comparative Analysis Process Structured Application Review:

After minimum qualification screening which could include a skills test the comparative analysis process will involve a review and rating of all the information you submit.

Document your work experience/job duties to the extent to which you possess the skills education experience minimum qualifications and preferred qualifications:

Answer all supplemental questions (if listed) as your answers to these questions will be evaluated during this phase. Provide at least 4-8 sentences for each response to supplemental questions.

Supplemental Questions:

Answer the supplemental questions on the application completely and thoughtfully. Your answers may be rated based on the content of your response and your writing skills (spelling grammar and clarity of your writing).

Minimum Qualifications:

Experience Only:

Six (6) years of relevant experienceworking directly with community members and/or human services partner experience with/being a recipient of Human Services-related benefits

OR

Education and Experience:

A combination of related education and/or relevant experienceworking directly with community members and/or human services partner experience with/being a recipient of Human Services-related benefits equal to six (6) years.

Substitutions:

Bachelors degree from an accredited institution in a field of study related to the work assignment and three (3) years of professional experience working directly with community members and/or human services partner organizations.

Lived experience with/being a recipient of Human Services-related benefits.
