The Forensic Early Intervention Service (FEIS) works collaboratively with the Office of the Solicitor General to provide outpatient services (including assessment treatment and discharge planning) for selected inmates at the Toronto South Detention Centre and the Vanier Detention Centre for Women. Services will be provided for inmates on remand who are suspected of experiencing a major mental illness and who may be at risk of being unfit for trial may need forensic mental health intervention to remain Fit to Stand Trial or are awaiting admission at CAMH. FEIS operates within the Toronto South Detention Centre located at 160 Horner Ave Etobicoke andVanier Detention Centre for Women located 655 Martin St. Milton ON.

The Complex Care & Recovery Program is seeking a full-time permanentSocial Worker 2 to work in the Forensic Early Intervention Service. Reporting to the Program Manager as a member of an inter-professional team you will be responsible for coordinating a client caseload. You will be required to formulate treatment plans monitor client response to therapeutic intervention and communicate with clients social and community networks. You will plan organize and implement psycho-social assessments and interventions. Working with clients who are on remand within a correctional institution requires strong clinical engagement skills and a thorough knowledge of risk management and recovery principles. You will work collaboratively with correctional staff. You will liaise with community service providers to coordinate care and inform treatment planning. You will be able to work with clients from diverse populations; contribute to program development; provide education support and supervision to students and participate in the research activities of the program. Your skills include the ability to make behavioral observations risk assessments mental status assessments suicide risk assessments psycho- social interventions documentation and ongoing communication with other team members. Candidates must be capable of providing supervision to Masters of Social Work students collaborating with faculties of social work on special projects related to the development of the social work field and also teaching other professionals. You will support a healthy workplace that embraces diversity encourages teamwork and complies with all applicable and regulatory requirements. These positions will consist of regular work hours Monday to Friday with the expectation of some weekend and evening hours in rotation. This position may require regular travel to multiple sites including 160 Horner Avenue in Etobicoke 655 Martin Street Milton ON and 10 White Squirrel Way Toronto. Access to a vehicle is required.

The successful candidate will possess a Masters of Social Work degree combined with a preferred 3 years of post-graduate work experience and be registered and a member in good standing with the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers. Experience working with individuals with severe mental illness and be registered and a member in good standing with the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers. The candidates must be eligible for an adjunct faculty appointment with the faculties of social work that have affiliation agreements with CAMH. Preference will be given to those who possess a strong knowledge of and ability to apply principles of risk management and crisis intervention and who have an understanding of social work practice with a forensic patient population. Knowledge of risk assessment techniques would be beneficial. You have a demonstrated ability to intervene effectively in clinical situations requiring the management of disturbed behaviour and possess effective decision making and problem solving skills in dealing with clients. Experience in completing psycho social assessments and group service provision is required. In addition you possess effective communication writing and interpersonal skills. Demonstrated ability to work with clients of diverse ethno racial and cultural backgrounds is necessary. Bilingualism (English / French) and/or proficiency in a second language is considered an asset.
