QUALIFICATIONS:
- Education: Minimum of a High School diploma or equivalent.
- Interest in and ability to work with children.
- Capable of making mature judgments concerning childrens welfare.
- Maintains sound working relationships with school personnel and the community.
- Understands and complies with confidentiality regulations.
- Proficient in clerical work including a high level of computer and organizational skills.
- Participates in and maintains standard Red Cross First Aid Certification CPR certification Med Administration Certification and Emergency Response Team Certification.
- Participates in a continuing program of in-service education related to the health care and clerical fields.
- Serves as a role model of good health to students and school staff.
- Able to accept limitations of responsibility.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: (Include but are not limited to)
- Assists the school nurse as directed in organizing the Health Office.
- Provides clerical support to the Health Office; organizes and maintains school health records.
- Keep track of all entry/exit students.
- Keep track of all health paperwork for students with health issues and compile an alert list to be distributed to all administrators and select staff.
- Responsible for entering immunizations and making sure all students are in compliance with Nebraska State law.
- Helps provide first aid and emergency care for ill students as provided for in school policy refrainingfrom making decisions or recommendations relative to a students health status beyond training.
- Participates in orientation and training programs.
- Maintains and ensures confidentiality of information.
- Assists in registering students to ensure medical/immunization records are accurate and complete for admission to school.
- Illnesses: Observes students for illness consults with the nurse/principal on health matters:
- Never makes any diagnosis or gives advice.
- Listens to and documents complaints of students on Daily log sheet and in Infinite Campus.
- Notes evidence of illnesscold cough skin rash nausea vomiting headache and other symptoms.
- Takes temperature of students. Any child who has a temperature of 100 or more should be dismissed after consulting with building administration. No student may be dismissed from school until parents or designated responsible adult (by parent) has been contacted. No ill or injured child should be sent home alone according to district policy. Notify attendance office if medically excused.
- Consults with nurse if a contagious situation such as head lice scabies ringworm impetigo or pink eye is suspected.
- Injuries: Observes students with a questionable injury:
- Consults with nurse.
- Informs parents or designated responsible adult (by parent) of injury; parent makes decisions for care of student.
- Initiates an incident report as needed.
- Health Problems: Remains aware of students with identified health problems such as asthma allergies convulsive disorders diabetes or heart problems. The nurse will inform you of these students and various health problems inherent in the diseases.
- Reports any observed unsafe practices to the principal and nurse.
- Maintains a written and Power School documented daily log of students reporting to the Health Office.
- Maintains a priority file for nurse including various teacher/parent request notes; returned information regarding child from parents; or any information nurse should have.
- Maintains inventory of health supplies and keeps a safe clean attractive Health Office.
- Performs tasks requested by school nurse.
- When not engaged in the above health related tasks provide clerical support to the school secretaryand for building administrator.
- Other duties as assigned.
