Reporting to the Manager Project and Field Serviceand as a member of the Field Services team within S&Cs Power Systems Solutions division the Field Service Technologist will work closely with customers to implement leading-edge solutions for the distribution power grid and provide on-site services for preventative maintenance troubleshooting commissioning modifying & upgrading of S&C automation products and traditional products. The work of a Field Service Technologist is performed using various hand tools and specialty tools. Interaction with product engineering will be required to solve more complex issues regarding the quality and performance standards for the finished products.

The responsibilities of this position include but are not limited to the following:

  • Start-up troubleshoot and repair complex power electronics and automation equipment involving power levels up to several megawatts.
  • Start-up test troubleshoot and repair radio fiber optic (does not include working on the actual fiber optic cable) and hard-wired communication systems.
  • Support other Field Service Technologists in troubleshooting and/or commissioning of S&C Equipment.
  • Provide technical training to customers on various S&C automation products.
  • Set up test and monitor equipment (including 3-phase utility and load connections).
  • Operate intermediate to complex computer-based test and monitoring equipment.
  • Approve follow and create detailed work safety and commissioning Procedures.
  • Assist in the resolution of customer issues.
  • Assist Product or Project Engineers to determine root cause for field issues (evaluate overall system performance including switchgear automation equipment and or power quality equipment).
  • Occasionally assemble or modify complicated standard & custom products.
  • Occasionally responsible for instructing and directing a group of personnel including subcontractors.

Minimum Requirements

  • Diploma in engineering (electrical or Mechanical) or related field from an accredited college or university.
  • Previous experience within the power industry electrical trade and or automation preferred.
  • Knowledge of electrical utility protection equipment or related electrical equipment.
  • Knowledge of and ability to troubleshoot communication protocols- DNP3 Modbus IEC 61850.
  • Familiar with radio system design and testing.
  • Knowledge of utility construction and operating practices.
  • Ability to understand and follow test procedures drawings schematics and wiring diagrams.
  • Knowledge in the use of oscilloscopes voltmeters Hipot and various electronic test equipment.
  • Strong interpersonal and verbal/written communication skills.
  • A valid drivers license with the ability to travel up to 60% of the time.
  • Excellent organizational prioritization problem-solving and multi-tasking skills.
  • A team player with high level of dedication.

Travel: Up to 60%

Work Location: 2909 Plymouth Dr Oakville ON L6H 6G7.

Work Arrangement: Hybrid when not travelling ( 2 days WFH).

Physical Effort: Normal or frequent minor physical effort is required for the day-to-day activity in the workplace. May involve standing sitting walking climbing stairs and lifting/moving/using objects or equipment up to 20lbs
