CBC Yukon is looking for an enterprising and collaborative multi-platform reporter to work in our Whitehorse newsroom. This is a permanent full-time role.

Your role

As an exceptional journalist and a self-starter you must be able to analyze a broad range of issues and thrive in the fast-paced high-pressure world of storytelling within a multi-platform newsroom.

You will have lots of ideas a fresh approach to telling stories and a keen desire to ensure our programming is timely relevant and reflects the news our audiences need to know right now.

You know how to gather write edit and package content for video digital and audio platforms. You thrive on the pressure of reporting on breaking news from the field. You are passionate about championing stories and sources from Yukons under-represented communities and you know that every story needs to include a range of perspectives.

As someone with a deep working knowledge of the Yukon (or the ability to develop one quickly) you understand its political landscape and its broad demographic make-up including Indigenous Nations and settler populations. You are ready to dig into a wide range of topics highlighting how issues affect the day-to-day lives of Yukoners.

In this role you will ensure your work meets all CBC journalistic standards and that our stories are fair balanced accurate thoughtful immediate and resonate with the communities we serve.

Your responsibilities:

• Pitch prepared story ideas daily and produce content that reaches a minimum of two platforms each day.

• Source research fact-check prepare and present short and long-form enterprise stories that will engage the audience deepen our community connections and elevate a range of voices on all our platforms and CBC Yukon programs.

• Live up to the CBCs Journalistic Standards and practices.

• Respond quickly to report on breaking news events as they unfold on all platforms. (video digital social & radio).

• Backfill where needed.

Your profile

• Demonstrated experience working in a news and breaking news environment.

• Strong understanding of online news including social media and strong understanding of reporting for video and audio platforms.

• Ability to generate pitch and pursue strong story ideas and produce daily content.

• Ability to forge positive team relationships valuing collaboration and transparency.

• A strong desire to live and promote the values of an inclusive and respectful work culture.

• Attention to detail and strong time management skills.

• Sound news judgment and ability to work effectively under newsroom deadline pressure.

• Strong communication and interpersonal skills; a standout colleague.

• A passion for learning new tools and journalism forms -- and an interest in shaping them for the future.

• Must possess a valid drivers licence as well as a driving record that meets the minimum requirements of CBC/Radio-Canadas insurance company other classes considered an asset.

• University degree in journalism or equivalent with a minimum of three years of recent related experience.

• Ability and willingness to work a variety of shifts including early starts late finishes and weekends.
