The Youth Intervention Services (YIS) unitin the Community Services Division of the Department of Parks Recreation and Neighborhood Services (Department)is recruiting to fillaCommunity Services Supervisor positionin theSanJosYouth Empowerment Alliance Program.Since 1991 this initiative formerly theMayors Gang Prevention Taskforce has ledcitywideefforts toreduceyouthviolence and ganginvolvement usinganationallyrecognized model.The mission is toprovidesafe supportiveenvironments for youthages6 to24 helpingthemavoid crime andviolence while buildingpositivefuturesIn additiontheYouth EmpowermentAllianceadministerstwo City-funded grant programs:the Bringing Everyones Strengths Together (BEST) and the Safe Summer Initiative Grant (SSIG) programsthat support community-based organizationsto provide services and supports for youth and their families.Finally theDepartmentis responsible forleadingthe implementation of the Citys Children and Youth Services Master Plan which serveschildren youth and young adults. This includes coordinatingtheintegration of programs and servicesacross City departments aligning strategiesandleveragingresourcesincollaborationwith community stakeholdersto ensure a comprehensiveequitable and effective support system for young people.
The Community Services Supervisorwill oversee thedailyoperationof youth-focusedinitiativesaimed at preventing violence and gang involvement improving school engagement and strengthening community support systems.This includes managingstaff performanceevaluation program effectiveness andenhancingservice deliveryacrossmultiple efforts.The Community ServicesSupervisorwillalso guidetheimplementationoftheChildren and Youth ServicesMasterPlan working with internalteamsandexternal partners tointegrateservicesandresourcesacrosstheCity.Programs under theCommunityServicesSupervisorsleadershipinclude the Safe SchoolCampus Initiative (SSCI)Female InterventionTeam (FIT)andSJWorks each focused onhelping youth buildresilienceconfidence and personalsuccess.
The ideal candidate willbe an experiencedand passionate leader with abackground in youthdevelopment communityengagement andviolence prevention.They mustdemonstrateastrongability tocollaborate withCity departments lawenforcement schoolsand communityorganizations to addresssystemicchallenges facing youth andfamilies.This full-time positionwill behoused at the HankCommunity Centerandwill have a hybridwork schedulewhich includesworking onsite andwill require travelacross the city when necessary.The position works40hours per week witha typical scheduleof Monday-Fridayhours will varydepending onactivities andevents and willrequire some eveningor weekend work.
JobDuties
Job duties for the position includebut are not limited to:
Lead the developmentimplementation evaluation and continuous quality improvementof programactivities andgoals that improve the lives of youth and families in the community.
Build strong relationships with community members schools and partner organizations to ensure ongoing collaborationengagement andleveragingof resources.
Design implement coordinate andevaluateprograms that includefamilyschool and community-based supports services andactivities.
Overseeandmonitorprogram budgets ensuring responsible use of public funds.
Supervise train and mentor a teamofapproximately25staff including Community Coordinators Youth Outreach Specialists Youth Outreach Workers and interns in the day-to-day operation of services.
Plan host and represent thedepartmentat community meetings public events and conferences asappropriateto increase awareness and foster partnerships.
Collaborate and coordinate efforts among service providers and agencies to align resources and improve service delivery.
Prepare clear well-written reports outreach materials and other documentsforcommunitymembersandCity leadership including the City Council and City Manager.
Develop and leadcrisisresponse plansand strategiesto addressemergingyouth family andneighborhood concerns includinggangviolencegraffitiactivityandotherpublic safety issues.
Connect residents with city countyschooland community-basedservices to help solve complex challenges and improve overall quality of life.

Education: ABachelors Degreefrom an accredited college or university inpublicadministration social work sociology or related field.
Experience:Two yearsof related supervisory experienceinvolvingthe organization and management of a comprehensive specialized program providing for the improvement of inter-group or community relations.
Licenses/Certificates:Possession of a valid California Drivers License (or the ability to obtain one).
