Job Description

This is a management/clinical position responsible for providing clinical services leadership and clinical/administrative oversight to staff of the Outpatient Mental Health Clinic. Clinical leadership includes the achievement of program efficiency and responsiveness and quality outpatient care. The medical director provides the clinician perspective in planning problem solving and daily operations within the clinic. This individual facilitates communication coordination and integration of services with other rehabilitation services offered by Sheppard Pratt and external providers. In consultation with the Clinic Director this individual ensures compliance with all licensing regulatory and accreditation bodies. The medical director reports to the Chief of Medical Staff or designee. The medical director also provides clinical services for residents of the program.

What to expect

Clinical Skills:

  • Provide psychiatric care and supportive services to assigned patients ensuring high-quality treatment and adherence to clinical standards.
  • Conduct comprehensive diagnostic assessments make informed treatment and medication management decisions and adjust plans based on patient progress.
  • Make appropriate treatment decisions and decisions regarding medication management.

Quality of Care:

  • Oversee the quality of care safety protocols and operational efficiency within the Outpatient Mental Health Clinic (OMHC).
  • Collaborate proactively with providers to identify and address quality or safety concerns aligning management strategies to minimize care delivery inconsistencies.
  • Lead and actively contribute to the clinical aspects of the quality management program.
  • Serve as the clinical liaison representing the clinical perspective in discussions with administration and addressing clinician-related matters.

Communication & Collaboration:

  • Foster a collaborative and communicative environment by working closely with the multidisciplinary team to ensure continuous and reliable care delivery.
  • Communicate with patients clients and families in a therapeutic and respectful manner ensuring understanding at their level and promoting effective care.
  • Collaborate with Chief of Medical Staff and other medical directors to coordinate and standardize care across the OMHCs.
  • Consistently strives to address the needs of patients clients and key stakeholders including payers families referrers and staff ensuring a high level of satisfaction and service delivery.
  • Foster collaboration and coordination between clinical and administrative teams across various programs including the PRP Day Program Residential/Supported Housing and Community Employment to enhance service integration and effectiveness.

Professionalism:

  • Demonstrate empathy and respect in all dealings with both team members and patients fostering a positive and supportive environment in my OMHC.
  • Promote a culture of professionalism within the OMHCs by setting clear expectations modeling appropriate behavior and encouraging ongoing development and improvement.
  • Ensure timely responsiveness to team and patient needs through diligent attention to emails active participation in meetings and addressing inquiries promptly from Sheppard Pratt staff and external collaborators.
  • Establish and uphold professionalism standards for the OMHCs providing constructive feedback to providers to ensure alignment with Sheppard Pratts core values and mission.

Compliance:

  • Ensure that services comply with state and federal laws regulatory requirements and standards including those outlined by COMAR and CARF accreditation.
  • Complete all mandatory educational and training modules along with required vaccination protocols.

Leadership:

  • Develop a vision in collaboration with interdisciplinary leadership of the OMHCs for how it should operate and work to advance that vision within the OMHC.
  • Address staffing requirements prioritize staff safety and cultivate a positive work environment to improve morale and promote retention.
  • Provide clinical and administrative supervision to clinical staff overseeing the peer review process including chart reviews and documentation compliance.
  • Assist clinical staff in achieving personal financial goals by optimizing practice management improving scheduling efficiency and enhancing practice strategies.

The pay range for this position is $290000 minimum to $400000 maximum. Pay for this position is determined on a number of factors including but not limited to board certifications and years and level of related experience.

What we need from you

  • Five years of experience is preferred including completion of a training program and practical experience in an acute psychiatric setting.
  • If a psychiatrist completion of a residency training program with an additional child psychiatry fellowship for those working with children and adolescents.
  • Possess an active medical license or psychiatric nurse practitioner license in the state of Maryland.
  • If a psychiatrist board Certification in Psychiatry is required with additional certification in Child Psychiatry for those working with children and adolescents.
  • Possession of a Maryland Controlled Substances Registration and a valid DEA Certificate.
  • Experience leading care teams in behavioral care settings.
  • Cooperate with the team to ensure continuous reliable care fostering a positive and supportive work environment.
  • Communicate therapeutically and respectfully with patients families and colleagues adjusting to individual levels of understanding.
  • Support education and standardization opportunities to enhance care delivery.
  • Proficient in using EMR systems for documenting patient encounters treatment plans and prescriptions. Skilled in managing patient data ensuring HIPAA compliance and improving workflow efficiency in a psychiatric setting.
  • High level of adaptability to meet multiple demands for the individuals time and energy and produces a high level of stress and mental fatigue.
  • Demonstrate strong relationship-building skills and a problem solving/solutions-oriented approach.

  • Work requires frequent walking and standing. Requires bending stooping reaching and lifting up to 20 pounds.
  • Requires frequent use of a computer.
  • Works in a patient care environment where there are some exposures to communicable diseases and blood-borne pathogens.
  • Work requires exposure to the risk of physical injury by assaultive patients.
  • Position involves physical preparedness to effectively implement therapeutic interventions.
  • Generally work occurs in an office environment with normal temperatures and office working conditions and on an inpatient unit.
