Job Description:
L3Harris Londonderry a leading designer and manufacturer of laser night vision and electro-optic devices is seeking a Mechanical Designer to pursue a career in a fast-paced company where new designs become production reality. As a member of our product development staff you will support mechanical teams in the creation of new technology initiatives and advancements. A variety of Mechanical Design skills specifically in the development of high technology weapon-mounted helmet-mounted and hand-held military products will be required to bring projects from concept to production.
Essential Job Duties:
- Documentation of parts and assemblies for products tooling and test equipment
- Design and integration of opto-mechanical components and subsystems
- Design and integration of electro-mechanical components and subsystems including packaging of both rigid and flexible circuits and related interconnects
- Design and integration of RF electronics and antennas
- Design of molded plastic parts
- Design of machined metal and plastic parts
- Design for harsh environments including shock extreme temperature and immersion
- Design for Manufacturing and Assembly (DFMA)
- Design for size and weight requirements
- Design to Unit Production Cost (DTUPC) requirements
- Perform rapid prototyping of parts and assemblies sufficient for user concept demonstration
Qualifications:
- Bachelors Degree and minimum 4 years of prior relevantGeometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) experience. Graduate Degree and a minimum of 2 years of prior related Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T)experience. In lieu of a degree minimum of 8 years prior Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T)experience.
Preferred Additional Skills:
- Academic knowledge or professional experience with other related technical disciplines (electronics software optics sensors and lasers)
- Experience creating Model Based Definition (MBD) drawings
- Machine shop experience including work with milling and lathe operations
- Experience with solid modeling (part and assembly) and drafting - Siemens NX and Teamcenter software preferred
- Detailed knowledge of molded plastic design materials adhesives and design for manufacturing
- Strong written and oral communication skills
