Join the Sixth Judicial District as a Court Operations Associate! The Sixth Judicial District seeks to fill a full-time Court Operations Associate position in St. Louis County Court Administration in Duluth MN. This position is anticipated to work on the civil and family case types. Assignment to case type will be determined based on business need. In this fast-paced and detail-oriented role you will be responsible for processing cases and assisting court customers and justice partners in order to provide justice through a system that assures equal access for the fair and timely resolution of cases and controversies.

Court Operations Associates work individually and in teams using independent judgment along with available resources to perform a variety of administrative assignments that require dedication to providing excellent customer service strong attention to detail and technological skills to match our electronic environment. Work may involve responsibility for a specific area of court case processing or for performing a variety of advanced clerical functions in multiple case types and will require the application of independent judgment and the interpretation of policies and procedures based on training and knowledge gained through experience on the job.

What YouWillDo

The following are examples of major job duties expected of this position:

  • Perform the full range of court operation work that may involve responsibility for a specific area of court case processing
  • Perform a variety of advanced clerical functions and multiple case types
  • Provide assistance toattorneys parties self-represented litigants judges and the public by responding to a variety of questions in-person over the phone by mail and/or electronically
  • Provide courtroom support by working with judges court reporters and other justice partners
  • Review enter record and update case information using an electronic case processing systemand related applications and equipment
  • Schedule andmaintaincourt calendars
  • Receive process and receipt payments due to the court
  • Attend court andassistbycalling cases takingnotesand handling documents in the courtroom
  • May perform the duties ofan Electronic Recording Equipment Operator (EREO) includingrecording and monitoring court proceedings

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • One (1) year of relevant job experience or greater which may include but is not limited to customer service administrative work office and clerical work

Nice to Have

  • Certificate or degree in a related field
  • Considerable knowledge of court procedures policies and records management
  • Experienceworking with the courts electronic case processing system

  • Ability to learn rules of court state statutes case processing policies and procedures of the area of court assigned
  • Knowledge of basic math
  • Skill in navigatingdifficult situationsand resolving conflict in a respectful and courteous manner
  • Ability to effectively support court users who have limited experience with the judicial system
  • Ability toprovideexceptional customer service while working under pressure in a high volume fast-paced environment
  • Skill in the operation of a personal computer including electronic case management system and related applications and equipment
  • Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information appropriately and in compliance with all applicable court rules policies and statutes
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing
  • Well organized detail oriented and analytical

What You Will Earn

The anticipated starting hourly rate for this position is no less than $20.43 for external hires with a full future earning potential of $20.43-$34.41 per hour. This position is non-exempt under the Fair Labor Standards Act and is eligible for State of MN employee benefits.

Working Conditions

Work is performed primarily in an office setting or a courtroom. There will be frequent contact with the public outside agencies litigants and attorneys at the counter in the courtroom and on the telephone.

Supplemental Information

The Sixth Judicial District serves Minnesotas Arrowhead Region including the counties of Carlton Cook Lake and St. Louis (Duluth Hibbing and Virginia).

Logistics

This is a full-time (1.0 FTE) AFSCME-represented position classified as a Court Operations Associate within the Minnesota Judicial Branch job classification system. Work will be performed in St. Louis County Court Administration located at 100 North 5th Avenue West in Duluth MN. This position may be working in a hybrid role consisting of a combination of remote and in-person work. When working remotely access to reliable internet connection is required. Typical hours for this position are 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. Monday-Friday.

This AFSCME-represented position is posted for bidding internal and external application simultaneously.

  • Internal/bidding deadline: June 11 2025 at 11:59 p.m.
  • External application: Initial review will begin after June 11.
  • Interviews are anticipated to be held June 16.
  • Position will remain open until filled.

The filling of AFSCME-represented positions is governed by the contract which requires that represented candidates are considered first and in order of seniority. AFSCME-represented Court employees applying for this position must have successfully passed their original 6-month probationary period and served 6 months in their current position prior to applying for this position.
