The Nursing Services Director performs oversight planning and leadership to the nursing services processes for inpatient and surgical services departments. The director will also perform direct managerial responsibilities in one department within their subdivision. Director plans organizes coordinates and directs care in the departments to achieve CCH goals and objectives. Responsibilities includes strategic planning analysis of process business processes and leadership in implementing change over areas of responsibility as well as management of day-to-day operations growth opportunities and communication with staff. With team building skills and nursing services experience this position will lead and educate hospital staff to assure optimum nursing performance.
Operations Management
- Responsible for development implementation and coordination of continuing education and staff competency program focusing of high risk low volume knowledge/skills
- Responsible for developing and implementing action steps related to strategic initiatives within the realm of leadership and operational responsibilities.
- Responsible for financial budgeting and performance of sub-divisions.
- Responsible for quality and compliance within realm of responsibilities.
- Responsible for establishing and maintaining appropriate staffing within sub-division. Ensures that staff is competent in the performance of the duties. Develops/trains staff in organizational policies procedures and protocols.
- Nursing Performance in all aspects of care delivery and professional practice.
- Performs leadership of surgical services and inpatient departments including setting goals and objectives monitoring progress and performance providing feedback. Leads manages and supports the leaders of these departments.
- Accountable for ongoing analysis evaluation and strategic planning for inpatient and surgical services departments staff development front line staff orientation and nurse residency program that includes staff clinical competencies standards of behavior employee engagement to provide a positive work culture and patient experience.
- Evaluates coaches and disciplines staff performance as needed.
- Conducts regularly scheduled department meetings and communication
- Attends and participates in committee meetings educational programs and in service meetings as required.
- Establishes implements evaluates goals and objectives for the Inpatient Services Department.
- Identifies addresses resolves and responds to issues/problems through cooperation collaboration and teamwork both intra and interdepartmentally.
- Reviews department performance and effects changes as needed to improve services streamline workflows and assure compliance with regulatory standards and good clinical practice.
- Establishes implements reviews and consults with appropriate disciplines to maintain updated policies and procedures current with accepted professional standards current literature and practice.
- Maintains records reports statistics and budgetary information for administrative and regulatory review
- Develops and maintains job descriptions and scope of practice for department personnel
- Demonstrates working knowledge of potential safety legal and liability issues
- Maintains personal and staff professional growth and development
Quality Improvement
- Leads Quality Monitoring and Quality Improvement Initiatives impacting inpatient and surgical services
- Continually demonstrates commitment to improving care processes and services
- Completes monthly QI Monitoring
Compliance
- Maintains awareness accountability and responsibility for assuring development revision maintenance and compliance to all nursing policies/procedures protocols and standards
- Awareness to internal and external standards policies procedures work-flows codes and regulations including but not limited to DNV Department of Inspections and Appeals Critical Access Hospital Regulations professional nursing standards of care/practice and Iowa Board of Nursing Practice Guidelines
- Establishes and monitors compliance with procedures standards and protocols for continuity of patient care and good clinical practice
- Completes and participates in mock surveys
- Assures safe medication administration practices through effective monitoring.
- Complete accurate consistent and timely documentation in the electronic medical record.
- Planning and coordination of nursing and pharmacy staff compliance to clinical informatics activities through EMR certified trainers and super users.
Patient Experience
- Demonstrates continued improvement in department specific patient experience surveys and quality improvement activities
- Leads implements monitors and evaluates patient experience initiatives
Basic Clarke County Hospital (CCH) Performance Criteria
- Demonstrates Clarke County Hospital Standards of Behaviors as well as adheres to hospital policies and procedures and safety guidelines.
- Demonstrates ability to meet business needs of department with regular reliable attendance.
- Employee maintains current licenses and/or certifications required for the position.
- Practices and reflects knowledge of HIPAA DIA DNV OSHA and other federal/state regulatory agencies guiding healthcare.
- Completes all annual education and competency requirements within the calendar year.
- Is knowledgeable of hospital and department compliance requirements for federally funded healthcare programs (e.g. Medicare and Medicaid) regarding fraud waste and abuse. Brings any questions or concerns regarding compliance to the immediate attention of hospital administrative staff. Takes appropriate action on concerns reported by department staff related to compliance.
- Actively identifies and mentors new and existing leaders to promote successful succession planning within the departments.
- Collaborates with leadership of other service lines to enhance patient flow and coordination of care between departments.
- Evaluates current evidence and outcomes data to influence change in regard to operational processes procedures and systems.
- Promotes a culture of safety by making patient and workplace safety is a priority. Designs and upholds standards that support patient and employee safety. Encourages the reporting of unsafe practices.
- Demonstrates knowledge of current reimbursement systems and payer sources when evaluating the efficiency of the patients visit.
- Demonstrates innovation in care delivery and care coordination
Qualifications:
Education: Bachelors Degree in Nursing. Preferred: Preferred Masters Degree in Nursing
Experience: Preferred: Requires 5 years RN clinical hospital experience with minimum of 3 years management experience or related experience recent management experience or related experience.
License(s)/Certification(s): Current Iowa RN License
