Job Description

Job Summary

An Accounts Receivable Accountant is responsible for overseeing and analyzing a companys accounts receivable to ensure timely customer payments and the accuracy of financial records. This role involves managing incoming payments related to joint interest billing activities accurately applying them to customer accounts performing account reconciliations and addressing any discrepancies. Additionally the accountant may handle collections respond to customer inquiries and generate financial reports to support decision-making and maintain compliance with accounting standards.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Recording and applying incoming payments to customer accounts.
  • Ensuring payments are correctly applied to outstanding invoices.
  • Communicating with customers to obtain payment detail.
  • Investigating and resolving discrepancies in customer accounts.
  • Handling multiple accounts efficiently while meeting deadlines.
  • Maintaining accurate records for auditing and reporting purposes.
  • Identifying ways to streamline cash application procedures.
  • Identifying opportunities to streamline accounts receivable operations.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Skills and Competencies

  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel to streamline data analysis.
  • Strong written and verbal communication for interacting with customers and internal teams.
  • Detail-oriented and highly organized.
  • Proven team player.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree in Accounting or Finance from an accredited college or university.
  • An acceptable pre-employment background and drug test.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Proficiency in SAP.
  • Experience in handling payment discrepancies and disputes efficiently.
  • Experience in accounts receivable or cash application.
  • Knowledge of joint interest billing practices in oil and gas industry.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions

  • Requires prolonged sitting some bending and stooping.
  • Occasional lifting up to 25 pounds.
  • Manual dexterity sufficient to operate a computer keyboard and calculator.
