JOB TITLE: SCHOOL NURSE
DEPARTMENT: School Health
REPORTS TO: Superintendent(s) or designee
Type Position: Non-exempt
SUMMARY: Provides first aid and health services to school-aged children under the direct supervision of the Registered Nurse and building Principal.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Works under direct supervision of the Superintendent or designee.
- Does all ordering for all nurses and manages budgets and Purchase orders
- Administers CPR training and certification for all staff for whom it is required
- Works summer school each June as nurse on duty
- Maintains CPR trainer certification
- Maintains appropriate licensing to administer medications and train as needed
- Oversees health fairs and other such events as required
- Evaluates building nurses in conjunction with Superintendent or designee
- Observes students on a regular basis to detect health needs.
- Administers medication and treatments prescribed by physician.
- Conducts various health and vision screenings.
- Maintains up-to-date cumulative health records on all students.
- Reports to parents school personnel physicians clinics and other agencies on school medical matters.
- Follows established policy and procedures for the care of a student or staff member who has suffered an injury or emergency illness.
- Participates with school staff in developing and implementing a total school health program.
- (May include health fairs; shot clinics YAAP program and faculty in-services.)
- Advises school personnel in establishing sanitary conditions in school.
- Implements board policy on exclusion and readmission of students in connection with infectious and contagious disease processes.
- Attends committee meetings and conferences regarding health service and health curriculum as part of continuing education units.
- Collaborates with other professionals in planning to assure quality of health care provided to students. Participates in IEP and 504 planning.
- Assists students families and school personnel to achieve optimal levels of wellness through health education.
- Provides input in selection of health personnel and assists other district buildings as needed.
- Performs other duties assigned by the building principal. (May include office duties and playground supervision.)
- Prepares and submits forms to the superintendent and the Missouri State Department of Health.
- Complies with all policies and regulations related to Student Health matters and maintains records in accordance with such policies.
COMPENSATION: Compensation as approved by the Board of Education
EVALUATION: Performance of this position will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Boards policy on evaluation of Professional personnel
Supervisory Duties
- AM/PM supervision of transportation or as assigned during the course of a normal contracted day
Qualifications
- Must be a licensed registered nurse from accredited university
- Must be a Medical Assistant (MA) qualified to administer medicine and basic first aid
- Must be or willing to obtain and maintain during the course of employment CPR certification

This position requires strong written and verbal communications skills. The individual who holds this position must:
- Have sufficient reading skills to interpret reports and apply Board policy and administrative procedures.
- Have listening skills sufficient to receive inquiries and complaints and respond accordingly.
- Have the ability to make effective presentations to the Board staff and school community.
Computation
- Ability to do basic mathematical calculations and apply concepts.
Reasoning
- Ability to define problems collect data verify facts make valid conclusions and deal with abstract concepts.
Technology
- This position requires basic skills in the use of computers and hand-held devices such as two-way radios and smartphones.

Conditions and Environment
The individual who occupies this position will regularly work in a typical school building environment but may be occasionally required to work outside in inclement weather including rain snow as well as in temperatures below freezing or in excess of 100 degrees Fahrenheit.
