Job Description

Position: Head of School

Department: Administration

QUALIFICATIONS

The Head of School must be a Christian who demonstrates a commitment to following the teachings of Jesus Christ through their conduct. It is essential for the Head of School to have a strong commitment to the mission and vision of the institution and to effectively implement its educational objectives. This role necessitates the expertise to collaborate effectively with teachers staff students parents and administration within a dynamic and culturally diverse environment.

  • At least a Masters degree in Education Administration or a related field along with qualification as an administrator in the applicants home country.
  • Prior international experience is preferred.
  • A strong background in curriculum development is also preferred.
  • Candidates with previous successful administrative experience at other levels are given priority.
  • Preference will be given to candidates with degrees and experience from Western countries.
  • Candidates should be proactive passionate and self-motivated.
  • Experience in administering various assessments and analyzing/communicating results is required.
  • Experience in data analysis and setting goals to improve instructional practices is desirable.
  • Experience with the WASC accreditation process is preferred.
  • Familiarity with interactive technology is also beneficial.



DESCRIPTION OF RESPONSIBILITIES

The Head of School at Chiang Mai International School (CMIS) bears the responsibility for the comprehensive and efficient management and administration of the international curriculum and academic programs across all levels from Preschool through Grade 12. Candidates should possess substantial experience and expertise in the administration of international or Western-based educational institutions serving Grades Preschool to 12. It is imperative that the Head of School is a committed Christian exemplifying their faith through their conduct and lifestyle in accordance with the teachings of Jesus Christ. The individual must have a strong conviction in the schools academic and spiritual philosophies and be dedicated to realizing the institutions goals and objectives. Besides the responsibilities outlined herein the Head of School is expected to fulfill the duties and responsibilities associated with the position to the highest standard.

Accountability: According to Thai law the Head of School reports directly to the School Director and Manager and implements the policies and decisions of the Board of Directors.

1. Strategic Leadership: The Head of School endeavors to ensure that the schools vision mission values beliefs and goals underpin decision-making processes and foster a positive school culture. The Head of School:

    1. Collaborates with the School Director and Manager and aligns with the Board of Directors to establish and effectively communicate the future vision mission and strategic objectives of the institution.
    2. Strives to uphold the schools vision mission and spiritual philosophy both personally and institutionally.
    3. Develops and articulates strategies for improvements and changes that are consistent with the schools goals and actively works towards their implementation.

2. Educational leadership: The Head of School is responsible for establishing collaborative frameworks within the institution to facilitate the design and execution of an effective academic program for students. The Head of School:

    1. Offers guidance to uphold standards in curriculum instruction and assessment grounded in research and best practices thereby establishing and maintaining high expectations for students within a safe orderly and nurturing environment.
    2. Ensures the existence of processes and schedules that afford teachers sufficient preparation time and students schedules tailored to their needs and objectives.
    3. Oversees the proper supervision of all teachers and teaching support staff either directly or through other administrative personnel through methods such as observations classroom visits and evaluations.
    4. Sets expectations concerning student achievement behavior and discipline.
    5. Oversees student testing reporting academic support and placement procedures.
    6. Provides leadership for the delivery of student support services.

3. Community Leadership: The Head of School will understand and promote the school community and contribute to the positive environment of the school. The Head of School:

    1. Acknowledges events and celebrates accomplishments of the school to further the identity culture and community perception of the school.
    2. Develops a sense of efficacy and empowerment among staff which positively influences the schools identity culture and performance.
    3. Strives to use and maintain effective methods of communication within and outside the school.
    4. Promotes the public presence of CMIS to the Chiang Mai Community at large including potential families with a focus on attracting priority applicants from the missionary and diplomatic community.
    5. Demonstrates effective interpersonal relationships with students staff parents and the community.

4. Personnel Management and Professional Development Leadership: The Head of School shall ensure that processes and systems are implemented to facilitate the recruitment induction support evaluation development and retention of high-quality teaching personnel. The Head of School shall:

    1. Provide leadership in the recruitment induction orientation support evaluation supervision development and retention of qualified teaching staff.
    2. Recommend newly recruited teaching staff to the School Director and Manager for approval and documentation procedures.
    3. Oversee the fair and equitable evaluation of teachers and academic administrative staff with an emphasis on recognizing excellence enhancing performance and benefiting student learning.
    4. Offer support to teachers and academic administrative staff aimed at improving job performance in collaboration with the respective staff members and appropriate administrative personnel.
    5. Advise the School Director and Manager on the retention or release of teachers and staff at the conclusion of their contractual periods or earlier providing evidence of proper notices and corrective actions in accordance with established policies and protocols.



5. Organizational Leadership: The Head of School is responsible for managing the schools organization operations and resources to ensure a safe nurturing and effective learning environment. The Head of School:

    1. Collaborates with the School Director and Manager to formulate promote support and enforce school policies rules and procedures among staff and students.
    2. Provides leadership in establishing and supervising appropriate committees protocols and positions for managing all programs related to students and teachers.
    3. Works in partnership with the School Director and Manager concerning school maintenance physical environment health and safety.
    4. Collaborates with the School Director and Manager to develop a budget and long-term resource plan aligned with the schools projected income ensuring the fulfillment of financial obligations and optimal utilization of resources to enhance student achievement.
    5. Oversees academic and extracurricular programs within the approved budget in consultation with the School Director and Manager.

6. Moral and Professional Leadership: The Head of School exemplifies appropriate values and ethical conduct. The Head of School:

    1. Demonstrates qualities such as respect fairness equity integrity and honesty in professional interactions.
    2. Respects diversity by valuing individuals and cultures within the school community and beyond.
    3. Advocates for the integration and implementation of Christian principles within the school curriculum and activities.
