Responsibilities

What you will be doing

  • The Employment Specialist is responsible to the College/campus for the facilitation and support of employability skill development for participants with disabilities in Achieve Program.
  • As a member of the Achieve Program you will work closely with employers the business community and service providers.
  • You will provide leadership and guidance that will enable persons with disabilities to obtain the knowledge skills and attitudes for long-term employment. Specifically you will support the development of employability skills provide job coaching and coordinate work experiences.

Qualifications and Occupational Experience:

  • The minimum educational qualification for this position is a post-secondary diploma in human services social services or related discipline. Certified Career Development Practitioner designation (CCDP) is considered an asset.
  • You have a minimum of three years of recent and related occupational experience supporting persons with intellectual disabilities and autism spectrum disorder.
  • Occupational experience that includes facilitating workshops or groups or with adult education would be considered an asset.
  • You are familiar with and comfortable using computer applications such as the Microsoft Office Suite E-mail Enterprise Resource Planning software and Learning Management Systems.
  • You are comfortable working in a digital environment; you take responsibility for acquiring knowledge about advancing technology; and you are committed to using technology in advancing your work
  • Experience in training/facilitation preparation delivery and evaluation would be considered an asset.
  • Experience liaising between students and industry (work experience providers) would be considered an asset.
  • Experience in on-site job coaching would be considered an asset.
  • Must have access to reliable transportation for site visits and job coaching

  • You are known for your problem solving and critical thinking skills
  • You are a strong communicator
  • You possess excellent coordination skills specifically related to work integrated learning. Specifically coordinating workplace experiences for students.
  • You have proven records and information management skills and abilities specifically related to tracking employees (students) at various physical locations
  • You have excellent interpersonal skills as required for working with neurodivergent individuals. Specifically you can maintain composure in socially unanticipated circumstances.
