The salary scale for Professional Support 4 is based on twelve steps that range from $74104.27-$98521.32. New Professional Support may receive up to a maximum of seven steps for relevant occupational experience which is $86294.89 annually.

What youll do

Responsibilities

Reporting to the Manager Student Accessibility Services you are accountable for leading accommodation planning and approval for students with disabilities. This includes but is not limited to:

  • Supporting student accommodation requests collecting student documentation evaluating student requests in relation to their documentation and the nature of programming applying professional judgement and expertise related to the impact of disability in the NSCC environment and consulting with qualified assessing professionals as needed.
  • Providing learning strategies to complement student accommodation plansincluding but not limited to improving learning skills integrating technology accessinglearning resources and tools and developing communication plans with faculty.
  • Organizing services refer students to appropriate learning supports assesseligibility for funding programs facilitate government mandated funding applications andcomply with external government partners processes and legislation.
  • Furthering the Colleges vision of equity in relation to our legal duty to accommodatein accordance with the Human Rights Commission liaise with the Centre for Teaching andLearning and collaborate with faculty members on the implementation of accommodationplans and supports.
  • Contributing to and participate in campus initiatives and signature events.

Qualifications

Qualifications and Occupational Experience:

  • The minimum educational qualification for this position is a Bachelors degree with a focus on adult education neuroeducation special education psychology social work or otherrelated field. Certificate in Applied Disability Studies is considered an asset.
  • You have a minimum of three years of recent and relevant occupational experiencedeveloping and supporting academic accommodation plans for students with disabilities in a post-secondary environment.
  • You have strong demonstrated experience using computer applications such as theMicrosoft Office Suite E-mail Microsoft Teams and have relevant experience with casefile management assistive technologies and learning management systems.
  • You have demonstrated knowledge and understanding in using online environments tosupport students.
  • You are comfortable working in a digital environment; you take responsibility foracquiring knowledge about advancing technology; and you are committed to usingtechnology to create an exceptional student experience.
  • You have demonstrated knowledge of adult learning and student development principlesdisabilities and learning support intervention.
  • You have experience in workshop preparation delivery and facilitation.
  • You have experience supporting/providing service to students and prospective students.

  • You have specific technical occupational knowledge and skill in assistive technology and developing accommodation plans.
  • You have specific knowledge and understanding of diverse populations includingIndigenous populations.
  • You understand universal design principles to model and promote accessibility among students colleagues and educational partners.
  • You possess excellent coordination skills specifically related to organizing supports and accommodations for students.
  • You have proven records management skills and abilities in keeping confidential case notes creating and maintaining electronic student files data logging and tracking.
  • Excellent communication skills while working with colleagues and serving students in both physical and virtual environments.
