We have an exciting opportunity to join our growing Sustainable and Active Travel team which sits within the Bus Accessibility and Active Travel Directorate (BAAT).

The team contributes to the Scottish Governments national outcomes we are healthy and active; we value enjoy protect and enhance our environment and we live in communities that are inclusive empowered resilient and safe. In recognition of the importance of the work and in order to accelerate progress towards our ambitions for an active nation and reducing car kilometres.

In order to prepare for the increased investment in active travel we have undertaken a review of the delivery model for active travel. In 2025-25 we launched the Active Travel Infrastructure Fund which will see Transport Scotland receive applications scrutinise them for technical standards and strategic impact award funding and monitor delivery. We are also leading on the Bus Infrastructure Fund which will see Regional Transport Partnerships and Local Authorities receive funding for bus infrastructure improvements in their areas.

As the post holder you will work in a dynamic and rapidly developing area with a strong ministerial public and media focus. You will collaborate with stakeholders responsible for delivering active travel and bus infrastructure projects. This position offers an excellent opportunity to work in an area with a rapidly increasing profile and direct involvement in the delivery of active travel and bus infrastructure. You will be responsible for developing and maintaining strong working relationships with awide range of stakeholders. The role provides the opportunity to gain exposure to various types of work in a fast-changing environment and the chance to collaborate with people from different backgrounds.

The role will report to the Technical Assurance Manager.

Responsibilities

  • Supporting the team in the administration of the Active Travel and Bus Infrastructure Funds and other programmes delivered by the team in collaboration with various stakeholders including Regional Transport Partnerships Local and National Park Authorities.
  • To assist with grant payments checking supporting information recording and monitoring project expenditure.
  • Preparing and contributing to briefings for Ministers senior Transport Scotland officials and others in relation Active Travel and Bus Infrastructure projects including site visits.
  • Produce monthly reports in liaison with other team members in relation to finances and project progress.
  • Work with the team on their responses to correspondence PQs FOI FMQs and other briefing requests as required.
  • Management of Project mailboxes ensuring that queries and feedback received via this portal are promptly recorded and responded to with support from the team.

Working Pattern

Location

This post is based in177 Bothwell Street Glasgow with hybrid working in line with current Transport Scotland policies. You will be expected to be office based twice per week pro rata.
