Job Description
At Avenues children act as artists every day: making creative choices manipulating materials exploring themes ideas and meanings. Through arts children also develop social and fine motor skills while learning through the target language. As the arts teacher you will:
Integrate Art into Project-Based Learning:
Collaborate with teaching teams to design and implement cross-disciplinary projects where art deepens understanding documents learning and enriches student voice.Use Art as a Language of Expression:
Support students in exploring and expressing ideas through a wide range of artistic media techniques and visual languages treating art as a vital form of communication and reflection.Connect Students with Artists and Artworks:
Introduce students to diverse artists (contemporary historical local global) and art forms using these as provocations and references to spark creativity inquiry and critical thinking.Design Reflective and Inclusive Experiences:
Facilitate experiences that value process over product encourage experimentation and honor individual and cultural identities through artistic expression. Support all students maturation and development targeting support to address individual needs. Manages students and the classroom towards building a respectful and committed student- centered learning community.Foster Studio Habits of Mind:
Cultivate student agency by promoting habits such as observation reflection revision persistence and risk-taking through the creative process. Build a warm supportive respectful learning atmosphere.Create and Document Learning Spaces:
Develop inspiring studio spaces and displays that make student thinking visible and celebrate their evolving understandings through art. Inspire trust and confidence among parents and familiesCollaborate Professionally:
Work closely with other educators participating in planning reflection and professional development to ensure a cohesive student-centered learning environment. Participate actively in ongoing intensive professional learning
Qualifications :
WHAT YOU BRING
Arts teaching experience in grades 3-5
Bachelors degree in Art Education Fine Arts or a related field
Experience teaching in progressive inquiry-driven or PBL environments
Strong knowledge of contemporary art practices and educational philosophies (e.g. Reggio Emilia Design Thinking Slow looking etc.)
Ability to work collaboratively and flexibly in a dynamic school culture
Passion for fostering creativity identity and meaning-making through the arts
Highly effective collaborator eager to listen deeply contribute to a team and achieve goals together
Deep dedication to learning and developing as an educator
Very resourceful and adaptive eager to embrace constant change growth and learning
