High School Co-Ed Cross Country Coach

Job Title: Varsity Boys & Girls Cross Country Head Coach

Work Schedule: Seasonal/Part-Time (evenings & weekends required)

General Description:

Position is responsible for coaching student athletes in game strategies and techniques to prepare them for athletic competition. Position motivates student athletes to develop an appreciation of the sport improve their academics stimulate personal growth and learn the techniques of cross country.

Qualifications:

• Experience as a long-distance running coach in cross country or track at the high school or college level is preferred. Individuals with long distance running experience cross country/track experience or general coaching knowledge should apply as well.
• Must possess effective coaching techniques and skills.
• Must possess a thorough knowledge of the rules regulations strategies and techniques of the sport.
• Must possess the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with school administrators parents and students.
• Must be able to complete a criminal background check as well as an Indiana Department of Childrens Services check.
• The ideal candidate understands that this is a new program which will require extra work creative ideas and a lot of enthusiasm to create a successful environment.

Primary Responsibilities:

• Holds organizational meetings for team prospects and encourages potential athletes to participate in the sport.
• Assesses players skills and assigns team positions.
• Develops a regular practice schedule and organizes practice time to provide both individual and team development.
• Works with the athletic director in scheduling facilities for practices and competitions.
• Assigns duties to assistant coaches as necessary.
• Coaches and instructs players individually or in groups regarding the rules regulations equipment and techniques of the sport.
• Observes players during competition and practice to determine the needs for individual or team improvement.
• Determines game strategy based on the teams capabilities.
• Establishes and maintains standards of pupil behavior and provides proper supervision of athletes at all times.
• Monitors the academic performance of team members to ensure that eligibility requirements are met; and encourages student athletes to maintain a high academic standard.
• Follows established procedures in the event of an athletes injury.
• Follows state regional and district regulations governing the athletic program.
• Models sports-like behavior and maintains appropriate conduct towards players officials and spectators.
• Follows established procedures for the proper care maintenance and requisitioning of equipment supplies and uniforms.
• Maintains eligibility forms emergency data participation records equipment inventory and other related records.
• Models nondiscriminatory practices in all activities.
• Attends staff development meetings clinics and other professional activities to improve coaching performance.
• Maintains/updates electronic websites required by school and/or state mandates in a timely basis.
• Organizes and attends the fundraising dates that are available for the athletics program.
• Performs any other related duties as assigned by the Principal & Athletic Director or other appropriate administrator.

Duties are normally performed in a school environment or outdoors. Duties may be performed away from school. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud.
