Job Description

POSITION OBJECTIVE:

The position of Central Kitchen Float is responsible for performing skilled kitchen duties including preparing cooking planning and serving food cashiering and cleaning. This position may additionally manage the daily operations of a kitchen and supervise staff in a short term and/or long-term assignment. This position may work in any district meal site (school or central kitchen).

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: (These duties are a representative sample; position assignments may vary.)

Assist in preparation and service of food to students and staff according to standard menus recipes and verbal instructions using available kitchen equipment;
Operate standard cooking equipment;
Open cans apportion contents wash and prepare fruits and vegetables;
Assemble salads sandwiches burgers entrees and desserts;
Wash dishes trays utensils pots and pans;
Clean tables chairs and food service area;
Replenish food and condiment containers;
Store and dispose of unused food;
May relieve or assist other employees in higher level positions to provide appropriate coverage due to absences emergencies or on-the-job training situations;
May be responsible for cashier tasks including the collection of money;
May set up and sell ala carte;
May complete daily and monthly records orders and reports;
May transport food from central kitchen to meal sites;
Perform other related duties as required.

REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS:

Reports to the Nutrition Services Director and is supervised by the Central Kitchen Manager.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE (positions in this class typically require):

Required
High school graduation or GED equivalent;
Two years experience in food service including one year experience in quantity food preparation;
Possess a valid State of Washington Department of Health Food Handlers Permit.

LICENSING REQUIREMENTS (positions in this class typically require):

None

KNOWLEDGE (position requirements at entry):

Safe food handling
Preparation and storage following Health Department Guidelines
General food preparation methods

SKILLS (position requirements at entry):

Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing in English
Ability to understand and carry out written instructions
Ability to maintain effective interpersonal relations with staff students and public
Demonstrates multicultural sensitivity with the ability to effectively and collaboratively work with diverse populations
Ability to perform all duties in accordance with all applicable Board policies and district and legal requirements
Ability to meet and maintain punctuality and attendance expectations.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Positions in this class typically require: stooping kneeling crouching reaching standing walking pushing pulling lifting finger dexterity grasping talking hearing seeing and repetitive motions.

Medium Work: Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.

Incumbents may be subjected to moving mechanical parts odors chemicals extreme temperatures inadequate lighting workspace restrictions and intense noises.


CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:

Nutrition Services salary classification B $23.03 to $25.59 (starting $23.03 per hour)minimum of 3.5hours per day (M-F) for 179 day annual assignment. This position is covered by a collective bargaining agreement. This position is covered by a collective bargaining agreement. Medical dental vision long-term disability and life-insurance eligibility is based upon 630 hours worked within a school year. Retirement provided through Washington State Department of Retirement Systems.
