The Department of Neurology at the University of Maryland School of Medicine (George Uhl MD PhD PI) isrecruiting for highly qualified postdoctoral researchers. Researchers will aid work that isdeveloping new small molecules toward use in humans. They will aid understanding of the novel targets that have been identified in human genome wide association and confirmatory mouse model experiments. Major current foci: inhibitors and substrate-selective positive allosteric modulators of the receptor type protein tyrosine phosphatase PTPRD as novel therapeutics for addictions and Alzheimers disease neurofibrillary pathology respectively. (see Uhl et al PNAS 2018 for lead compound PTPRD phosphatase inhibitor).
We seek highly motivated scientists with PhD and/or MD in an appropriate field. Experience in molecular biology biochemistry molecular genetics mouse behavioral assays as well as willingness to learn associated areas are positives. We are interested in researchers who can work well independently and in collaboration with University and VA researchers with medicinal chemistry behavioral molecular genetic neurology and drug development backgrounds.
