PRIMARY PURPOSE:

Coordinate the routine cleaning and maintenance procedures necessary to maintain a high standard of safety security cleanliness and efficiency of the building operations and grounds and monitor the performance and deficiencies of custodial staff

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Certification Requirements

  • High school graduate or GED equivalent preferred
  • Candidate must have satisfactory outcome of fingerprinting background check

Special Knowledge and Skills

  • Knowledge of plant operations cleaning methods and procedures minor repairs security heating and ventilation and grounds maintenance
  • Ability to read and understand instructions for cleaning maintenance and safety procedures
  • Ability to operate cleaning equipment and lift heavy equipment
  • Ability to properly handle cleaning supplies

Experience:

  • Minimum of two (2) years in custodial services
  • Supervisory ability or Supervisory experience

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

  • Work closely with custodial staff to train them in the proper use of materials and equipment
  • Establish procedures for locking checking and safe guarding facilities
  • Oversee when requested the physical arrangements for school rental dances and other extracurricular activities.
  • Upon request of the administration proposes shift schedules and informs the administration when replacement or extra help is required
  • Keep the principal and designee informed of defective or unsafe plant conditions.
  • Make minor repairs when requested within his/her resources and any necessary adjustments to plant equipment and fixtures
  • Work with school administrators on submission of work orders on maintenance repairs and conduct follow-up to insure timely completions
  • When requested by the school administration will develop daily work schedules for campus custodians
  • Attend custodial in-service when requested
  • Handle emergencies and perform other assignments directed by the principal or designee
  • May be required to do some touch up painting
  • Implement and maintain established cleaning schedule that will include cleaning of floors chalkboards wastebaskets windows furniture equipment and restrooms
  • Keep school building and grounds including sidewalks driveways parking lots and play areas neat and clean
  • Keeps light bulbs and tubes replaced
  • Comply with local law and procedures for storage and disposal of trash
  • Punctual and dependable
  • Perform other duties as assigned based on department needs
  • Must complete designated district technology proficiencies each year
  • Requires a basic knowledge of technology/computer skills
  • Ability to use personal computer to access district programs emails and other resources
  • Maintain a consistent professional demeanor and appearance
  • Ensure compliance with the Texas Educators Code of Ethics
  • Daily attendance and punctuality at work are essential functions of the job

Supervisory Responsibilities:

Monitor and direct the work of custodians

Equipment Used:

  • Office equipment personal computer printer calculator multi-line telephone software programs and peripherals copier fax and other equipment applicable to position
  • Communication equipment radio communication equipment cellular telephone
  • Buffer stripper wet and dry vacuum cleaner electric drill hand tools shampooer

Mental Demands:

  • Ability to read concentrate communicate (verbally and written) interpret reason understand verbal instructions memorize coordinate compile compute
  • Work with frequent interruptions and maintain emotional control under stress

Physical Demands:

  • Frequent: Sitting standing walking climbing stairs ladders and/or ramps using a scissor lift balancing stooping kneeling crouching crawling pulling pushing reaching repetitive hand motions hearing speaking clearly visual acuity distinguishing colors driving traveling
  • Occasional: Lifting heavy 45 pounds or more

Environmental Factors:

  • Frequent exposure to: temperature extremes (hot and cold) humidity extremes noise low or intense illumination vibration
  • Occasional exposure to: biological hazards (communicable diseases bacteria insects mold fungi etc.)
  • Work outside work around moving objects or vehicles work on uneven surfaces
  • Work alone work prolonged or irregular hours
