Shape the Future of Veterinary Excellence in Western Canada

Are you a visionary veterinary leader ready to make a lasting impact As the Regional Medical Director (West) for VetCare youll be based in Vancouver or Calgary and will play a pivotal role in driving exceptional medical quality across 20 practices throughout Western Canada. Partnering closely with the National Medical Director youll champion best practices and help realize VetCares ambition to be Canadas leading provider of high-quality veterinary care.

This is a unique full-time opportunity to harness your medical expertise operational savvy and financial insightall while supporting a passionate team dedicated to outstanding patient and client care.

Expected Salary Range: $165000 - $175000

Your Impact: Key Responsibilities

  • Champion Best Practices: Educate and influence veterinary teams to embrace current medical thinking and deliver outstanding patient care.
  • Build Strong Relationships: Collaborate with Regional Operations Managers Practice Managers and veterinary teams to foster continuity teamwork and excellence.
  • Coach and Mentor: Spend time in each clinic observing coaching and mentoring veterinarians both individually and in groups.
  • Provide Hands-On Care: Work two days per week as a practicing veterinarian supporting clinics and clients directly.
  • Drive Continuous Improvement: Use reports medical records and on-site observation to enhance diagnostic treatment surgical and dental skills across the region.
  • Support New Graduates: Develop and oversee mentorship plans for new veterinarians ensuring their successful integration and growth.
  • Guide Clinic Transitions: Assist with new clinic transitions working alongside the transitions team and Regional Operations Manager.
  • Optimize Equipment: Evaluate and maximize the use of medical equipment to improve clinic efficiency and patient outcomes.
  • Manage Complaints: Address veterinary board and client complaints with professionalism collaborating with the National Medical Director Regional Operations Manager and Practice Manager to reach resolutions.
  • Enhance Team Efficiency: Work with Practice Managers Medical Directors and Associates to improve time management and the effective use of technicians/technologists and technology.
  • Attract Top Talent: Partner with Talent Acquisition to identify and assess DVM candidates and represent VetCare at industry and campus events.
  • Foster Engagement: Organize and lead regional meetings support DVM development plans and define medical goals alongside Regional Operations Managers.
  • Strengthen Clinic Culture: Conduct regular doctor and team meetings to build a positive supportive clinic environment while introducing/encouraging a collaborative environment between DVMs and support teams.
  • Support Well-Being: Connect with and support Medical Directors and associates to ensure job satisfaction and overall well-being.
  • Shape the Future: Act as a thought partner with the National Medical Director contributing to the development and implementation of new protocols and guidelines.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) or equivalent from an accredited university
  • Preferred: Medical Director or leadership experience
  • Preferred: Multi-unit experience
  • Preferred: Clinic Management experience
  • Licensed (or eligible for licensure) to practice veterinary medicine in all provinces within the assigned region
  • Minimum 5 years of practical clinical experience in small animal medicine
  • Strong relationship-building and communication skills to foster collaboration with veterinary teams
  • Ability to promote and implement medical programs in a collaborative environment
  • Proficiency in using data-driven insights to identify opportunities and drive targeted improvements in patient outcomes and team effectiveness

Special Working Conditions

  • Flexible schedule and availability required
  • Work environment includes the presence of pets
  • Approximately 50% travel between British Columbia and Alberta including overnight stays
  • Must be based within driving distance of VetCare clinics in the provinces supported
