Job Description

Cogen Operations SME- Columbus NE

Summary:
The Cogen Operations SME is responsible for overseeing daily operations within the production area ensuring efficiency safety quality and compliance. This role partners closely with leadership operations personnel and support departments to meet production targets develop colleagues and drive continuous improvement efforts.

Specific Job Duties
  • Oversee daily plant operations to ensure personnel and process safety operational efficiency and environmental compliance.
  • Collaborate with department teams to meet project timelines and production goals proactively addressing any challenges that arise.
  • Maintain clear and timely communication with the department superintendent to troubleshoot issues and maintain smooth operations.
  • Ensure consistent interpretation and application of company policies and procedures across the production area.
  • Promote a culture of safety by:
    • Leading by example with an Incidents Are Preventable mindset.
    • Encouraging safe work practices environmental awareness and adherence to Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP).
    • Ensuring compliance with OSHA and other safety regulations.
    • Identifying and recommending improvements to safety programs equipment and facilities.
  • Coordinate production activities to ensure adherence to product quality environmental safety and housekeeping standards.
  • Support the development of team members by working directly with Dept/Shift Supervisors Day Leads and Operators to achieve operational goals and foster growth.
  • Supervise day-to-day activities within the production area providing leadership to operational teams.
  • Review daily documentation including operational reports quality logs shift summaries and production reviews to ensure accuracy and drive accountability.
  • Draft and distribute evening and weekend operational updates to ensure seamless communication and continuity.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for operational reliability supporting production maintenance planning and troubleshooting efforts.
  • Partner with other departments to provide guidance and ensure operational consistency throughout the Cogen facility.
  • Support GMP compliance and site preparedness for inspections and facility tours by coordinating area preparation and ensuring high standards.
  • Lead and contribute to continuous improvement and optimization initiatives by:
    • Generating Management of Change (MOC) and Authorization for Expenditure (AFE) requests.
    • Issuing work requests and participating in project walk-downs and punch list development.
    • Following through on project completion.
  • Advance the O.I.T. (Operator in Training) program by:
    • Enhancing training materials and identifying needs in collaboration with the department superintendent.
    • Developing individualized training plans.
    • Coaching employees toward higher levels of job proficiency.
  • Facilitate open communication across all levels of the team by:
    • Actively listening to employee concerns and suggestions.
    • Addressing safety environmental and quality issues as they arise.
    • Keeping management informed of operational status employee morale and safety trends.
    • Participating in and contributing to safety area and supervisor meetings.
  • Coordinate and prioritize Cogen CFB outages with respect to both ADM and contractor maintenance activities.
  • Remain available as an on-call resource during evenings and weekends for production and quality issue resolution.

  • Participate actively in the recruitment and hiring process for Cogen department employees including interviewing and onboarding of new team members.
  • Support the orientation and integration of new hires to ensure a smooth transition and understanding of operational expectations.
  • Engage in continuous self-development to support personal and professional growth preparing for future advancement opportunities.
  • Act as the primary liaison with vendors suppliers and consultants related to the assigned production area ensuring effective collaboration and service delivery
  • Perform additional duties as assigned to support departmental and organizational goals.
Education Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; Associates or Bachelors degree in a business or operations related field preferred or equivalent on-the-job experience.
Required Skills
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for working with cross functional teams.
  • Ability to work effectively on a team as well as independently
  • High level of motivation and results-oriented way of working.
  • MS Office Suite
Preferred Skills
  • 2-3 years experience in a leadership role/ direct supervision of people
  • Strong commitment to safety
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to plan priorities effectively
  • Strong communication skills (verbal and written) for coordination training and reporting
  • Demonstrates ability to lead a team effectively.

Base pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors including market location job-related knowledge skills and experience. Hourly and salaried non-exempt employees will also be paid overtime pay when working qualifying overtime hours.

If hired employees will be in an at-will position and the Company reserves the right to modify base pay (as well as any other discretionary payment or compensation program) at any time including for reasons related to individual performance Company or individual department/team performance and market factors.
