Job Description
Position: 1.0 FTE High School Counselor
FLSA: Exempt
REPORTS TO: Building Principal and K-12 Director of Counseling
Terms of Employment: 184 day work year. Benefits and salary in accordance with the LEA Unit A collective bargaining agreement.
0.5 FTE Counselor/ 0.5 FTE Section 504 Counselor
August 25 2025 start date.Unit A 25-26 Salary Range
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

- Maintain building records and documentation for all students eligible under Section 504 in partnership with the LPS data team.
- Ensure building-level implementation of Section 504 procedures including referrals evaluations team meetings and plan development.
- Provide parent notices secure and document consent and monitor compliance with all legal and district requirements.
- Collaborate with staff families and service providers to implement accommodations and monitor student progress.
- Provide individual and group counseling services addressing academic social-emotional and behavioral needs.
- Assess student need gather data and monitor student progress to inform interventions.
- Deliver crisis intervention re-entry and transition support aligned with district protocols.
- Mediate student conflicts and support restorative practices.
- Develop and implement school-wide initiatives that promote positive school culture and social-emotional learning.
- Assist students with course selection technical programs and graduation requirements aligned with their post-secondary goals.
- Provide academic advising and career counseling and support the college application and scholarship process.
- Write counselor recommendations and assist with gap year and application processes.
- Participate in and contribute to school teams including SST 504 Special Education Child Protection Mental Health PLCs and Data Teams.
- Uphold ethical and legal responsibilities including mandated reporting FERPA and district protocols.
- Support diversity equity and inclusion through all counseling and 504-related work.
- Create and maintain student records schedules attendance RTI interventions etc. using electronic student information system
- Utilize tools such as Google Docs SCOIR and ASPEN for planning communication and data tracking.
- Stay current with developments in school counseling and 504 legislation through ongoing professional learning.
- Participate in professional learning to maintain current with counseling practices
- Perform other related duties as assigned to support student success and a safe inclusive school culture.
Minimum Qualifications:
Minimum of 1 year experience in a school-counseling preferred. MA DESE School Counselor License required; MA DESE School Adjustment Counselor optional. Special Education experience preferred. Clinical Experience preferred.
The ability to work effectively in a team environment and the willingness and desire to support others in doing their best work. Demonstrated success in mediation and relationship building. Candidate must be organized possess strong communication and writing skills and be able to multitask in a fast paced environment.
Must also possesses the knowledge abilities skills and attitudes as outlined in the American School Counselor Association (ASCA) School Counselor Competencies that are necessary to plan organize implement and evaluate the comprehensive developmental results-based school counseling program that aligns with the ASCA National Model.
