Job Description

POSITION SUMMARY:
The Buyer II role will be responsible for the strategic management of procurement activities and supplier relationships to optimize the value and performance in the acquisition of goods and services for the organization. In this role you will be responsible for procuring standard production materials components and indirect materials and supplies that meet the operations requirements. The Buyer identifies sources of commodities evaluates bids and purchase orders and maintains contacts with suppliers to identify the most current availability quality and pricing. The Buyer expedites the ordering and delivery process for commodities and assists in the resolution to invoice discrepancies. With a background in purchasing and supply chain the candidate will take a proactive approach managing the replenishment of supplies and material.
DUTIES:
  • Responsible for sourcing raw materials components and finished products for use in manufacturing by ensuring the pricing is equitable cost-effective and profitable.
  • Serve as main point of contact for suppliers with respect to purchasing related issues.
  • Negotiate and manage purchase orders for assigned commodities as well as items fabricated per engineering specifications and MRO items.
  • Communicate as needed to expedite deliveries and follow up on any past due Purchase Orders.
  • Work closely with planner on One Time Buy (OTB) and sales trends entrance and exit strategy for all categories.
  • Manage invoice reconciliations.
  • Ensure that accurate records of supplies and inventory levels are maintained and analyze data around the use or depletion of these resources over time.
  • Coordinate communication between QA Engineering and suppliers.
  • Responsible for monitoring and assessing how well the supplier meets or exceeds the expectations and requirements set by the organization.
  • Manage and analyze supplier on-time performance and keep in constant communication with suppliers to help improve delivery.
  • Monitor pricing for upward trends and address as supplier lead times are not increasing to avoid impacts to production and supplier on time delivery.
  • Monitor supplier quality performance to identify downward trends and address as needed.
  • Partner with Quality and Strategic Sourcing to issue annual supplier scorecards.
  • Follow up on Corrective Action items with Quality and Supplier.
  • Responsible for the ongoing process of analyzing performance identifying opportunities and making incremental changes to processes and procedures.
  • Participate in ERP system development and implementation to improve effectiveness and efficiency of inventory.
  • Work with Strategic Sourcing on development and implementation of purchasing and contract management instructions policies and procedures per guidelines.
  • Increase transparency and communication with multiple departments and suppliers to achieve daily/weekly/monthly production requirements and expedites.
JOB REQUIREMENTS:
  • Bachelors Degree in Science or Business preferred with 2-4 years experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Ability to both manage the day-to-day tactical work of a Buyer as well as capacity to plan and execute procurement strategies that align with the organizations goals.
  • Comprehensive understanding of Excel Word and purchasing order software programs (Experience with Netsuite a plus)
  • Prior experience with an ERP or MRP system and understanding of supply and demand planning.
  • Able to thrive in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong knowledge of supply chain management principles and practices.
  • Ability to negotiate favorable terms and prices with suppliers.
  • Analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to negotiate and communicate effectively.
  • Relationship and stakeholder management skills.
  • Ability to collect interpret and evaluate data from various sources to make informed decisions.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Ability to work well with a team.
  • Ability to travel up to 10% of the time.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
  • This is primarily a desk-based role requiring extended periods of sitting and computer use. While the role is mainly desk-based mobility within the office manufacturing facility and customer sites may be required for meetings and interactions with colleagues.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENT
  • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer. Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times. Ability to traverse office manufacturing facility and customer sites.
