The University of Miami/UHealth OBGYN Department has an exciting opportunity for a full-time Medical Assistant 2 to work in Miami FL. The Medical Assistant 2 performs a variety of routine duties in a hospital or clinic to assist medical and nursing staff in the examination and treatment of patients.
CORE JOB FUNCTIONS
Obtains vital signs and patient information for inclusion in the patients medical record.
Administers injections or treatments performs routine laboratory tests and assists in other patient care activities such as dressing changes and leg wraps.
Prepares treatment room for examination of patient.
Assist with physical examinations by preparing supplies and handing instruments and materials to the doctor as directed.
Provides patients with basic instruction and information regarding examination procedures.
Cleans and sterilizes medical instruments while observing the principles of sterile technique.
Schedules patients for tests and completes required forms for laboratory work.
Maintains accurate and complete patient records and documentation.
Orders stocks and inventories supplies and escorts and transports patients to various hospital locations.
Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets.
Department Specific Functions
Obtains vital signs and patient information for inclusion in the patients medical record.
Assist attending physicians with minor surgical procedures annual and follow up gynecological exams such as pap-smears cultures endometrial biopsies and pelvic exams.
Draw and process laboratory test per MD orders.
Provides patients with basic instruction and information regarding examination procedures.
May serve as a lead to Medical Assistants or assist with their training.
Follow up on UChart in-basket pool and results messages Rx refills as assigned.
May be required to float occasionally to other practice site when there is a staffing need
Ability to communicate effectively (both verbally and in writing).
Knowledge of sterile techniques and special procedures that are applicable to work performed (will be trained on proper disinfection of any applicable instruments and disinfecting rooms in between patients).
Knowledge of infection control procedures and safety precautions.
Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with patients and clinic staff.

CORE QUALIFICATIONS
High school diploma or equivalent
Graduate from an approved Medical Assistant educational program recognized by the U.S. Department of Education (USDE).
Minimum 2 years of relevant experience
Active - American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) for healthcare providers
Skill in completing assignments accurately and with attention to detail.
Ability to analyze organize and prioritize work under pressure while meeting deadlines.
Ability to process and handle confidential information with discretion.
Ability to work evenings nights and weekends as necessary.
Any relevant education certifications and/or work experience may be considered.
