About the Role
The Key Worker provides support information educationtraining and intervention to the community and families of children and youthwith FASD/CDBC and related disorders. The Key Worker provides families withopportunities to network with other parents and caregivers of children withsimilar challenges and reports to the Program Lead.
What Youll Do
- Receives referrals and provide direct outreach servicesto children youth families or caregivers.
- Assists and supports families to interpret assessmentsand provides help with necessary supports.
- Oversees and coordinates the implementation ofrecommended plans and provides activities to maintain or prompt a plannedchange in behaviour functioning or condition.
- Teaches strategies and provides information in a flexiblemanner in order to increase the knowledge of parents and professionals of theneurological nature of these disorders.
- Coordinates and/or liaisons with the assessment teams toidentify children and adolescents with FASD and similar Complex DevelopmentalBehavioural Conditions.
- Provides services and support in the context of afamily-centered practice.
- Advocates for children and youth.
- Stays current and informed about relevant legislationinformation and services.
- Establishes develops and facilitates parent-to-parentsupport mechanisms that allow for mentoring training education self-helpand mutual aid.
- Maintains records and client files prepares reportsadministers surveys and collects statistics and client feedback as requested.
- Adheres to SCCSS policies and procedures and meets alllegal contractual financial and other compliance requirements such as CARF.
- Participates and contributes to regular staff meetings.
- Obtains and maintains awareness of the demographic andsocio-economic variables of the community and actively works to reduce barriersto service.
- Maintains client records and client files in keeping withprogram manual and SCCSS policy.
- Support the mission vision and values of SCCSSincluding participating in organizational-wide initiatives as interested orasked.
- Assists with other duties as required from time to timeaiding with the efficient operation of the organization.
- Assists the Program Lead in creating a learningenvironment for students and volunteers.
What You Bring
- Bachelor orgraduate degree in Social Work Child and Youth Care or related human servicesfield with a minimum of 2 years related experience. Or a diploma in child andyouth care or related human service field and a minimum of 3 years experienceworking with children and youth affected by FASD and their families.
- Knowledge andexperience working with children and youth demonstrating behaviourdifficulties cognitive or developmental challenges.
- Knowledge andexperience working with children and youth with FASD Complex DevelopmentalBehavioural Conditions and related disorders.
- Understanding ofthe social and educational needs for the child or youth and the impact ofFASD/CDBC on their families.
- Understanding ofappropriate strategies based on a neurodevelopmental framework.
- Experiencedeveloping and facilitating groups and training.
- Ability tomanage a complex caseload and workshop schedule.
- Flexibleschedule to accommodate appointments in the evenings and weekends.
- Demonstratedability to communicate with clients according to varying developmental levels.
- Knowledge ofmulti-cultural issues Indigenous families family systems and culturallyappropriate practices.
- Strong computerskills in Microsoft Office suite and experience with an electronic clientrecords management system.
- Excellentorganizational and communication skills.
