QUALIFICATIONS:
- Masters degree or higher from a recognized accredited college or university;
- Valid Texas teaching certificate;
- Minimum of two (2) years of successful experience as a classroom teacher or school librarian;
- A valid Texas Learning Resources Specialist certificate Learning Resources endorsement Professional Library Learning Resources Specialist certification or School Librarian certificate;
- Proven leadership in library media services and/or instructional skills to work with staff students families and communities;
- Strong organizational communication and interpersonal skills;
- Knowledge of library and information science; and
- Ability to instruct and work with students.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
Probationary/Term Contract: 188 days
SALARY:
Pay Grade T60 (Teacher Classification) as set by the Board of Trustees for the school year 2024-2025
FUNCTIONS:
Administrative Leadership
- Works cooperatively with other school librarians in the district to assure a cohesive K-12 Library program.
- Operates and supervises mulitple libraries with varied support.
- Prepares administers and maintains accurate records related to the library budget.
- Evaluates selects and orders new instructional materials digital resources equipment and furniture for the library.
- Provides reference service and readers advisory.
- Maintains an efficient system for cataloging circulation retrieval maintenance and storage of library materials.
- Trains and supervises all library staff and library volunteers in the performance of their duties.
- Arranges for inter-library loan of materials.
- Schedules the use of the library for maximum accessibility to equipment digital resources print materials and library space.
- Weeds materials from the collection according to the district library policy.
- Maintains accurate records of the librarys holdings and statistics as needed.
- Creates an appropriate climate in the library that reflects the philosophy of the school and district.
- Participates actively in professional library organizations.
- Sustains knowledge of current literature as related to the library patrons as well as the professional library.
Teaching
- Provides orientation programs.
- Provides formal and informal instruction of library resources for students and staff.
- Encourages the love of reading through book talks reading incentives etc.
- Assists students in the selection of library resources.
- Teaches research skills and inquiry methods to students and staff through whole group instruction and/or individually.
- Promotes the critical role of information literacy and essential skills needed for a 21st-centurylearner.
Collaboration
- Collaborates with staff for effective use of library services resources and facilities.
- Assists staff and students in the use of technology.
- Works cooperatively with staffon the selection of instructional resources.
- Collaboration with other librarians as needed.
Public Relations
- Keeps principal staff students and parents informed of library program goals objectives and resources.
- Schedules library programs to enrich students literary experiences. (i.e. author/illustrator visits storytellers book fairs book clubs etc.)
- Creates and maintains a positive and welcoming climate in the library.
