Location: Middletown NY
Rate of Pay: Peer Certification $25 (Provisional) $28 (Certified)
CASAC $25 (CASAC-T) $28 (CASAC)
Hours: Tuesday to Saturday or Sunday to Thursday (daytime)
Peer Certification or CASAC required
As a Peer Navigator you will provide direct services to individuals living with serious mental illness developmental disabilities or substance use disorders. Your role will focus on connecting individuals to essential services empowering them to achieve their personal goals and offering support as they navigate recovery. You will foster a sense of hope and self-determination building relationships that encourage self-efficacy and personal growth in a community-based setting.
PRIMARY FUNCTIONS:
  • Inspire Hope and Warmth: Welcome individuals to services with compassion and care setting a positive tone for their journey of recovery.
  • Empowerment and Self-Determination: Support individuals in identifying their strengths building life skills and making decisions that drive their recovery.
  • Life Skills Development: Facilitate activities that enhance self-efficacy and life skills giving individuals the tools they need to live independently.
  • Build Supportive Relationships: Establish relationships based on mutual respect shared experiences and understanding to support positive social or personal changes.
  • Strength-Based Approach: Focus on the strengths and capabilities of each individual creating a supportive and motivating environment.
  • Collaborative Partnerships: Work closely with individuals and service providers to ensure the delivery of holistic care and achieve recovery goals.
  • Modeling Recovery: Serve as a living example of recovery by sharing personal achievements and encouraging others to celebrate
ADDITIONAL FUNCTIONAL / ORGANIZATIONAL SUPPORT:
  • Community Engagement: Work within the community and in clients homes providing support in diverse settings.
  • Resource Connector: Guide individuals to the appropriate community resources promoting self-advocacy and self-sufficiency.
  • Ally and Confidant: Offer personal insight and experiences to individuals acting as a trusted confidant and source of support.
  • Role Model and Mentor: Serve as a social bridge to recovery helping individuals navigate recovery culture and challenges.
  • Problem Solving: Identify and resolve obstacles to recovery using creative problem-solving techniques and assisting individuals in interpreting their treatment plans.
  • Educator and Guide: Educate individuals about recovery stages and help them acclimate to recovery culture fostering hope and resilience.
  • Life Coaching: Support individuals through challenges promoting exploration of new activities and personal growth.
QUALIFICATIONS AND ATTRIBUTES:
  • Strong organizational skills with keen attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
  • Demonstrated experience in coping with mental health and/or substance use challenges.
  • Knowledge of healthcare systems community resources and the pathways to care.
  • Decision-making and problem-solving skills with a creative approach to overcoming challenges.
  • Proficient in written verbal and presentation communication.
  • Familiarity with hospital community and recovery-based resources.
  • Proficient in computer skills and technology use.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
  • Personal lived experience with mental health and/or substance use recovery.
  • Experience facing life challenges and managing mental health or substance use disorders.
  • NY State Peer Certification or Provisional Certification (preferred).
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) is a plus.
