British American Tobacco UK has an exciting opportunity for a JUNIOR TOXICOLOGIST in Southampton

What are the key objectives and expectations from this role

The purpose of the role is toconduct anddeliver toxicological ingredient and materialassessmentstomeetwith our globalProduct Stewardship guidleines in line with the R&D Policy Framework corporate positions and specific legislation for our product categories. To be an integral member of the team delivering innovations to marketand technically directing projects data requirements and analysis data to meet commercial launch plans.

Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Toguide the project teams on the toxicology evaluations tests and design needed to build the data packages for the individual product launches.(technical toxicology accountability)
  • To guideon data analytics approaches and delivertechnicallyagainstbig-data projectsto enable the business to meet commercial launchrequirements
  • Conduct and deliverquantitative riskassessments andrisk profilingtoenable the business to meet commercial launch requirements.
  • Authorand deliverGR&D reportspresentationsdossiersand publications asrequired
  • Responsible to articulate and drive defined program areas or tools that can deliver a common approach between categories that will aid the efficiency and treatment of different ingredient types or methods e.g. Naturals Skin Sensitizers etc.
  • Identifyand suggest wherenew approachescan be applied and suggest changes tooperatingand stakeholder management procedures forsubsequentapproval.
  • Applyappropriate solutionsor approaches toidentifyand resolve problems based on an understanding and experience of biology toxicology or chemistry.
  • Budget inform forecast manage project budgets and adhere to financial process and controls.

What are we looking for

Experience Required

  • Relevant sciencebackground equivalent to a degree level qualification with good understanding of the principles of Toxicology Ideallydemonstratedtechnical background in toxicology test packages particularly risk assessment ora relevant background in applied data-sciences/data-analyticsor regulatory compliance
  • Awareness of technical developments in toxicology & regulations (tobacco & consumer goods)or data sciences
  • Demonstrable a positive attitude along with a drive to succeed and flexibility in adapting to new tasks and changing priorities
  • Proficient computing skills tofacilitateuse of in-house database and skilled user of Word PowerPoint and Excel
  • Understanding of product regulations in tobacco or cosmetics consumer goods food food packaging pharmaceuticals etc.) with basic knowledge of the contents and design of conventional tobacco and nicotine products
  • Previousexperience in some aspect of applied science risk assessment or productstewardship/data sciences
  • Good attention to detail with a keen problem-solving attitude to enable the delivery of thorough and robust risk assessments
  • Awareness of tobacco product emissions chemistry (e.g. T/N/CO deliveries TobReg9 Hoffmann analysis smoking regimes)
  • Good communication organisational and planning skills and ability work both as a team member and independently
  • May be a member of a relevant professional body such as the British Toxicology Society
