Description
Required Certifications: For this position you will be required to become a Union Pacific certified driver during your probationary period. To become certified you must meet the following Motor Vehicle and Medical Requirements:
1. Must be a minimum of 21 years of age
2. Have valid drivers license
3. Have an acceptable driving record per your Motor Vehicle Record (MVR)
4. You may also be required to obtain your Commercial Drivers License (CDL) if you will be operating a vehicle(s) with a GVWR of 26000 lbs or greater. If this is required you will need to obtain your CDL during your probationary period.
Medical Requirements:Must meet the medical requirements (also called physical qualifications) for commercial motor vehicle drivers as specified by the US Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA). The FMCSA physical qualifications for drivers can be found on the FMCSA homepage. Health and Medical Services at Union Pacific Railroad will make the final determination on whether or not an individual meets the FMCSA medical qualifications and may add additional medical requirements to assure the person can safely perform job tasks with or without accommodation.
Accountabilities
- Perform other duties as assigned
- Ensure compliance with all railroad rules and regulations for safety operations and Federal Railroad Administration (FRA)
- Develop and maintain positive working relationships with coworkers supervisors contractors and/or customers and effectively handle controversy
- Read prints schematics and technical manuals have basic understanding of AC & DC theory Ohms Law DC and AC charging and rectifying systems
- Use a variety of test equipment
- Troubleshoot failures and restore service for variety of RF transceivers
Qualifications - Required
- All applicants must have reached the age of 21or above
- All candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States without requiring company sponsorship.
- Computer literate and have basic keyboarding skills
- Valid drivers license
- Must have the following: 1) formal training equivalent to an associates degree or higher in the electronics field or a related technical field OR 2) 2 years of experience working with electrical components or working with electronic equipment (e.g. communications cellular airplanes ships wind turbines etc.)
- Commercial Drivers License (CDL) Class A or can obtain one within your probationary period
- Proficient verbal and written communication skills to deliver information to coworker(s) and supervisor(s)
- Experience reading and understanding instructions (examples may include: operating and safety rules bulletins special instructions and federal regulatory documents)

Qualifications - Preferred
- Currently certified or previously certified from an accredited tower climbing and rescue training program (e.g. ComTrain Safety LMS or classroom training from a technical/vocational school).
- Experience in operating using and driving a digger-derrick truck including setting Class 3 or larger wood poles or steel poles.
- Completed formal training in radio or cellular tower support wind turbine tower support or as a lineman.
- Experience working outdoors in various weather conditions (including professional personal and volunteer experience).
- Experience operating heavy equipment such as construction or farm machinery (including professional personal and volunteer experience).

- Required to have normal color vision enabling the detection and interpretation of various visual color signals.

Work Conditions
- Apply only to those locations where you are willing to live and work
- You are responsible for providing your own transportation
- Perform tasks at heights ranging from 100 to 500 feet
- Crews generally work eight consecutive 10-hour days followed by 5 to 7 days off before the next work period begins
- Travel is required 95-100% of the time
- Comfortable wearing personal protective gear for most of the day
- Must be willing and able to work in environments with large equipment including railcars locomotives and cranes.
