Duties and Responsibilities*Denotes Essential Functions
Policy & Strategy Development Oversight & Analysis
*Serves as system-wide financial aid policy and strategy lead.
*Exercises operational oversight and responsibility for analyzing relevant policies and strategies impacting financial aid in support of enrollment efforts.
*Provides administrative leadership and vision to develop new or modify existing financial aid policies and techniques to promote access retention completion and other student success outcomes.
Collaborates with UH System offices and campus staff to explore innovations in curriculum delivery (e.g. online programs) to promote student success and leverage financial aid and scholarship funds.
Collaborates with UH Foundation to help explore scholarship fundraising opportunities.
*Works cooperatively with UH System Scholarship Specialist UH System Policy and Compliance Specialist and Banner functional financial aid staff to develop and implement technological solutions in support of efficient financial aid operations.
Works cooperatively with System Bursar and Institutional Research offices and relevant campus programs faculty staff and administrators to develop and revise policies and strategies that address issues and concerns in financial aid enrollment and other student success areas.
*Develops best practices and models/templates for compliance with federal regulations involving financial aid especially related to financial aid policies and information.
Provides leadership and administrative assistance for other areas of student success as assigned.
Financial Aid Subject Matter Expertise
*Serves as a system-wide lead and resource to senior administration campuses and other stakeholders regarding policy interpretation policy & strategy development and guidance and priority-setting for financial aid programs.
Serves as a University of Hawaii liaison to the USDOE on matters pertaining to Federal Student Aid Title IV regulations and compliance.
*Works closely with campus senior student affairs officers financial aid and other stakeholders to generate and evaluate alternative responses to issues and concerns related to financial aid.
*Assists with UH Office of the VP for Academic Strategy projects and initiatives that pertain to financial aid or other areas of student success as needed.
Attends conferences and workshops to stay current on financial aid regulations.
*Communicates effectively and works closely with financial aid leads including the UHCC centralized financial aid office to provide leadership in the formulation of financial aid policies strategies technical solutions and training for financial aid staff system-wide.
Service Coordination & Program Administration
*Consults with administrators financial aid staff and other campus and community representatives to assess needs associated with system-wide coordination of policy and strategy especially related to student financial aid and student success goals.
Works closely with the UH System Student Affairs Senior Support Specialist on matters that overlap between financial aid and other student affairs departments to ensure collaboration communication and compliance.
*Serves as primary lead to work with the UH Foundation on practices associated with UH Foundation scholarships and donor/scholarship reporting fundraising and general administration of UH System scholarships.
*Provides leadership and compliance support for campus personnel on annual financial aid audits and program reviews assists campuses with the development of corrective action plans for compliance as needed.
*Facilitates systemwide meetings of the financial aid managers.
Works closely with the UH Bursar Institutional Research Banner Central and STAR teams to leverage technology in the innovation of efficient operational processes and procedures.

Minimum Qualifications
Possession of a baccalaureate degree in Business Administration Arts & Sciences Arts & Humanities Education or related field and 5 years of progressively responsibleprofessional experience with responsibilities for providing financial aid leadership in a post secondary setting including experience in working with financial aid program management and policy oversight; or any equivalent combination of education and/or professional work experience which provides the required education knowledge skills and abilities as indicated.
Considerable working knowledge of principles practices and techniques in the area of higher education student financial aid as demonstrated by the broad knowledge of the full range of pertinent standard and evolving concepts principles and methodologies.
Considerable working knowledge and understanding of applicable federal and state laws rules regulations and theories and systems associated with higher education student financial aid.
Demonstrated ability to resolve wide ranging complex problems through the use of creative reasoning and logic to accurately determine the cause of the problems and the resolution of the problems in an effective innovative and timely manner.
Demonstrated ability to interpret and present information and ideas clearly and accurately in writing verbally and by preparation of reports and other materials.
Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external organizations groups team leaders and members and individuals.
Demonstrated ability to operate a personal computer apply word processing software and utilize spreadsheets.
Desirable Qualifications
Masters degree in Business Administration Arts & Sciences Arts & Humanities Education or related field.
8 years of progressively responsible professional experience with responsibilities for providing financial aid leadership in a postsecondary setting.
Experience leading a financial aid office.
Experience working with Banner.
Completion of NASFAA professional credential(s).
