Job Description

The primary purpose of the Security Dispatcher is to protect life and property. This is accomplished through monitoring coordinating and controlling information received from sources such as duress access and intrusion alarms on campus. The Security Dispatcher commands our central communication center. The Dispatcher is responsible for all telephone and radio communications. Information is evaluated and communicated to the appropriate Public Safety personnel as well as police fire and medical services. Finally in the absence of a supervisor the dispatcher assumes the duties and responsibilities of a Security Manager.

Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Monitor/Coordinate/Control: Responsible for monitoring and controlling the fire and intrusion systems. Interprets the signals as they are received and coordinates the necessary responses.
Monitors all fire intrusion trouble and supervisory alarms
Monitors key management system and distributes keys when required
Monitor Bursars office Health Services Enrollment Services and Parking Services panic alarms
Monitors the emergency phones stationed throughout the main campus
Monitors Access Control System
Monitors all 911 phone calls
Answers all Calls for service (i.e. lockouts escorts jumpstarts)
2. Communications: The Dispatcher is responsible for telephone and radio communications:
Responsible for answering or transferring all standard non-emergency telephone inquiries to appropriate departments.
Inquiries regarding building opening/closings
Assists with providing phone directions to the University
Inquiries regarding location and time of events occurring on campus.
Answers all radio transmissions
Dispatches transportation services Saferide requests: coordinate & dispatch of assets; SHUFLY:status/locations and questions
3. Reports emergency situations and potential safety issues to appropriate University personnel and outside vendors for a timely response.
Perform fire extinguisher inspections
Notify emergency services: fire police and medical
Notify Rapid Response central alarm station for off campus building alarms
Dispatch Public Safety personnel to incidents
Notify S.O.F.D and Encore Fire Protection of any sprinkler repairs or maintenance when system is inoperative
Notify USA Security of any alarm repairs or maintenance when system is inoperative
Notify appropriate Insurance Company when the fire suppression system is deactivated for maintenance repairs and upgrades.
Communicate with senior Public Safety administrators as incidents my require
Contact appropriate chemical regulatory and compliance information services to obtain MSDS (maintenance safety data sheets) forms regarding chemical spills.
Is off-hours contact for Facilities Engineering for emergency maintenance and all off hour requests
Notifies on-call counseling services
Contacts appropriate vendor dispatcher regarding problems associated with the ShuFly shuttle
4. Responsible for issuing and recording equipment maintains reports and forms including but not limited to:
Issues equipment to the ShuFly bus driver
Issues parking passes when Parking Services is closed.
Issue and collect security equipment (e.g. radios keys ticket writers)
Record all boot and tow sheets
Maintain lost and found binder
Fill out lost property reports and verify claims by confirming identification
Fills out hospital transport fund forms
Maintain dispatch documentation including computer files on all off campus sites
Maintain and reorder all supplies/equipment as necessary
Complete AAR (Alarm Activation Reports) maintenance forms
Maintain PNG and restriction lists
Releases booted or towed vehicle when Parking Services is closed
5. Supervision: In the absence of a Security Manager the dispatcher assumes the responsibilities of shift supervisor:
Conducts roll call
Conduct roll call training
Monitors assignments
Assists personnel in field
Passes on information to oncoming shifts. Reviews and approves incident reports
Enter reports

Required Qualifications:

High School diploma required preferred bachelors degree 1-3 year work related experience must work well under pressure be able to multitask and prioritize.

Desired Qualifications:

40 hours basic 911 communication course operate close circuit televisions and multiplexer systems.

Licenses and Certificates:

Valid NJ drivers license CPR AED First Aid Certification
