ASSISTANT DIRECTOR OF ACADEMIC SUPPORT AND DISABILITY SERVICES

Bridgewater College seeks an Assistant Director of Academic Support and Disability Services. This full-time (12-month) position reports to the Director of Academic Support and Disability Services. The Assistant Director of Academic Support and Disability Services works closely with students with disabilities to support their adjustment to college and ongoing learning.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Though not exhaustive the essential responsibilities of the Assistant Director include the following:

  • Provide accessibility consultation collaboration education support and accommodations to ensure non- discrimination and equal access to all college programs services and activities for students and visitors with disabilities.
  • Provide instruction and guidance for students in the Accessible Information Management (AIM) software system.
  • Collect and review student documentation.
  • Provide appropriate accommodations.
  • Assess psychological and educational limitations for students.
  • Refer students for psychoeducational testing.
  • Consult with students parents staff faculty and professionals outside the college community.
  • Communicate accommodations and consult with faculty.
  • Coordinate requests for curriculum modification due to disability course substitutions.
  • Facilitate communication and distribution of students accommodation letters in AIM.
  • Oversee class notes requests and monitor notes uploads in AIM.
  • Convert files for students if needed.
  • Acquire books in alternative formats for specified students.
  • Secure sign language interpreters if needed.
  • Provide academic advising.
  • Communicate with faculty regarding student progress.
  • Provide training/education for faculty and staff concerning disability and disability services.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelors degree in education social work or related field.
  • Knowledge and experience with disability accommodations or experience in higher education
  • Flexibility adaptability and willingness to contribute to the achievement of department goals with a commitment to provide the highest level of customer service and responsiveness
  • Ability to independently manage a variety of projects
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Qualities of informed judgment self-motivation high degree of responsibility accountability and confidentiality
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills that are accurate and collaborative
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office
  • Commitment to working with and supporting students from diverse backgrounds

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • A Masters degree in Student Development Special Education Higher Education or a closely related field
  • Knowledge and experience with secondary or post-secondary disability accommodations
  • Experience in higher education
  • Experience in using disability services case management software

Pay is competitive and salary is commensurate with experience. This full-time position offers a full benefits package including paid tuition at the College for eligible dependents.
