Job Description

The Painter responsible for application of protective coatings on mining components and tooling.

Responsibilities

Level 7

  • Operate pallet jacks cherry picker to lift or hang parts needing prepping with supervision.
  • Maintain good housekeeping 5S practices.
  • Read and comprehend simple instructions and verbal directions.
  • Prep parts for paint including taping sanding caulking etc. with supervision.
  • Hang parts with proper identification following work order specifics with supervision.
  • Read and interpret Liebherr Employee Rules and Regulations company safety rules operating and maintenance instructions and work order packages.

Level 6:

  • Operate pallet jacks cherry picker or lift to hang parts with minimal supervision.
  • Prep parts for paint including taping sanding caulking etc. with minimal supervision. Utilizing the correct tool for the specific job.
  • Read and correctly execute work orders and practical instruction which includes ability to determine what color the parts need to be painted with minimal supervision.
  • Determine appropriate sand paper for various materials to result in proper surface preparation.
  • Safely and properly use and condition sanders grinders and hand tools. Including replacing worn components which includes pneumatic tools and air lines & whips with minimal supervision.
  • Use proper techniques to treat and remove rust to include the use of chemicals.
  • Properly tag/identify parts for painting and know where to store parts after painting.
  • Complete all required documentation which includes any standards documents and log time for jobs into the computer with supervision.
  • Properly prep parts for blast.
  • Use small parts blaster to include equipment inspection & basic troubleshooting with supervision.

Level 5:

  • Operate forklift in addition to other material handling items to move hang parts for paint or completion. Hang parts on racks or A frames for painting.
  • Rework and or touch up parts as needed to meet standards.
  • Operate palm sanders with no supervision.
  • Perform duties of level 7 and level and 6 with no supervision.
  • Brush and roll minor reworks as needed.

Level 4:

  • Use spray gun to paint small parts with supervision.
  • Mix plural components to achieve proper ratios for paint to properly cure with supervision.
  • Safely dispose of paint waste.
  • Operate paint booths including start up and shut down procedures with supervision.
  • Properly suit up per safety standards for paint booth operations.
  • Break down and clean up painting equipment after painting with supervision.
  • Choose proper tip selection when spraying with supervision.
  • Apply paint to proper specification thickness on small parts.
  • Identify paint defects such as runs and holidays. Also the ability to identify a paint failure such as fish eyes and chemical reactions.
  • Properly clean the paint booths to include knowing when and how to replace filters.
  • Adhere to Liebherrs ISO and 5S principles.

Level 3:

  • Perform all duties of levels 7-4 with no supervision.
  • Spray small parts with no supervision. Inspecting own work.
  • Spray larger main items (ie. Main Frame Super Structure Axle Box) with supervision.
  • Operate large forklifts (big yellow).
  • Mix all paint types with no supervision.

Level 2:

  • Perform all duties of levels 7-3 with no supervision.
  • Coat all large parts to standard with no supervision with minimal rework.
  • Offer direction and technical instruction when needed.
  • Trouble shoot paint gun issues and minor Wagner system issues with minimal supervision.
  • Proficiently perform all painting tasks to achieve high quality results.
  • Train mentor other members on paint operations and standards.

Level 1: (senior)

  • Perform all duties of levels 7-2 with no supervision.
  • Perform all paint duties with no supervision.
  • Communicate with the team and management.
  • Fill in as acting lead when lead is out.
  • Positively influence people Lead a group to achieve a task at hand and follow up to ensure that production goals are met.
  • Work any shift and overtime as needed to meet job demands.
  • Coat all components using any material with zero rework.
  • Trouble shoot the Wagner paint system without supervision. Communicate with Sherwin Williams when problems are more advanced.

Competencies

Education and Experience:

  • Level 7: High school diploma or general education degree (GED) with 1 year experience and/or training or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Level 6: High school diploma or general education degree (GED) with 2 year experience and/or training or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Level 5: High school diploma or general education degree (GED) with 3 year experience and/or training or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Level 4: High school diploma or general education degree (GED) with 4 year experience and/or training or equivalent combination of education and experience. Familiar with brush and roll touch up process.
  • Level 3: High school diploma or general education degree (GED) with 5 year experience and/or training or equivalent combination of education and experience. Proficient with brush and roll touch up process. Understanding of Non Conformance work orders and able to work independently to complete.
  • Level 2:High school diploma or general education degree (GED) with 6 year experience and/or training or equivalent combination of education and experience. Proficient with brush and roll touch up process. Understanding of Non Conformance work orders and able to work independently to complete. Working independently in assembly area hitting touch up items as they arise.
  • Level 1: High school diploma or general education degree (GED) with 7 year experience and/or training or equivalent combination of education and experience. Proficient with brush and roll touch up process. Understanding of Non Conformance work orders and able to work independently to complete. Lead the touch up process in the assembly area understanding all requirements and accomplishing all tasks without supervision. Assign other touch up members tasks for the day in coordination with assembly schedules.

Level 7:

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Ability to operate material handling equipment including cranes and lift trucks.
  • Knowledge of good housekeeping practices.
  • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions.
  • Ability to hang parts with proper identification with supervision.
  • Ability to read and interpret Liebherr Employee Rules and Regulations company safety rules operating and maintenance instructions and work order packages.
  • Must be able to complete all TELL online training classes

Level 6:

  • Must have a minimum of 3 months in Level 7 including all the mandatory functions of Level 7 to advanced
  • Demonstrate ability to properly tape parts.
  • Ability to locate read & correctly execute work orders & practical instruction which includes ability to determine what color the parts need to be painted.
  • Ability to determine appropriate sand paper for various materials to result in proper surface preparation.
  • Demonstrate ability to safely & properly use & condition sanders grinders and hand tools. Including replacing worn components which includes pneumatic tools and air lines & whips.
  • Demonstrate safe & proper techniques to treat & remove rust to include the use of chemicals.
  • Ability to properly tag/identify parts for painting and know where to store parts after painting.
  • Ability to correctly & neatly complete all required documentation which includes any standards documents and the time cards.
  • Demonstrate ability to safely & correctly prep parts for blast.
  • Demonstrate ability to determine when and how to correctly apply caulk.
  • Ability to understand Liebherrs ISO and 5S principles.

Level 5:

  • Must have a minimum of 1 year experience and qualify in all Level 6 functions and 2 of level 5 requirements to advance
  • Successful completion of department specific safety forklift training & license / crane/rigging training & operators card (to include proper hanging & removal of parts from rack).
  • Demonstrate ability to safely make a batch of thinner.
  • Demonstrate ability to safely correctly & without wastes mix primers/paints for general spraying & touch ups.
  • Demonstrate ability to work on assembly line and if any rework needed to be fixed it can be properly repaired or touched up as necessary to meet standards.
  • Demonstrate ability to work on teardown item in the annex.
  • Demonstrate the ability to safely & properly use pressure washer to include equipment inspection & basic troubleshooting.

Level 4:

  • Must have a minimum of 2 years experience and qualify in all Level 5 functions and 2 of Level 4 requirements to advance
  • Demonstrate ability to properly spray the prime & top coat.
  • Safely dispose of paint waste.
  • Demonstrate ability to safely start the fresh air system to include basic troubleshooting.
  • Demonstrate ability to break down and clean up after painting.
  • Know where to find required paint thickness and how to measure it with a wet mil gauge.
  • Demonstrate ability to correctly rebuild a spray gun with minimal supervision.
  • Demonstrate ability to safely and properly clean the paint booths to include knowing when & how to replace filters.

Level 3:

  • Must have a minimum of 3 years experience and qualify in all Level 4 functions and 2 of Level 3 requirements to advance
  • Demonstrate ability to correctly change out a pressure pot liner when necessary.
  • Ability to spray small parts with no rework.
  • Demonstrate ability to correctly rebuild a spray gun.
  • Demonstrate the ability to prep all parts for blast.
  • Ability to operate large forklifts.
  • Demonstrate ability to properly suit up per safety standards.

Level 2:

  • Must have a minimum of 4 years experience and qualify in all Level 3 requirements to advance
  • Must be able to offer direction and technical instruction when needed.
  • Ability to coat all components using any material with minimal rework
  • Ability to trouble shoot the coating system with minimal supervision.

Level 1 (senior):

  • Must have a minimum of 6 years experience and qualify in all Level 2 requirements to advance
  • Must be able to perform daily tasks with no supervision.
  • Must be able to positively influence people Lead a group to achieve a task at hand and follow up to ensure that production goals are met.
  • Ability to coat all components using any material with zero rework.
  • Ability to trouble shoot the coating paint system without supervision.

Additional Requirements:

  • Travel domestically and internationally up to 5% of the time.
  • Ability to maintain Mine Safety & Health Administration (MSHA) certification.
