Role Definition
We are seeking an individual to join our Caterpillar Financial team in Canada as a Credit Manager overseeing the Originations division. In this role main functions include oversight of the credit adjudication process evaluation of creditworthiness as well as management of the credit risk of our portfolio and funding practices to ensure financial stability and compliance with regulatory standards.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Manages credit investigation activities including credit analysis evaluation and rating of customers and dealers for all credit requests.

  • Leads financial analysis and risk assessment on new accounts; coordinates with underwriting and structuring of credit requests.

  • Oversees existing workflow and finds opportunities to reduce costs and risks while adhering to related policies and procedures.

  • Oversees contract booking and funding practices through internal controls and supporting Sarbanes-Oxley and other regulatory compliance.

  • Monitors negative credit trends and adverse signs in existing account quality; recommends preventive actions.

  • Reviews and approves credit requests up to authorized credit authority limit.

  • Reviews the credit history profitability and liquidity of clients to assess the risk level involved in credit extension or money lending. Top candidates will be able to review all levels of credit including Risk Management proposals.

  • Evaluates financial statements for multiple industries and sizes of companies.

  • Directs the usage of all major financial analysis ratios.

  • Recommends alternative sources for and uses of comparative ratios.

  • Teaches others the difference between audited un-audited adjusted and pro-forma reports.

  • Advises others on comparing borrower ratios to appropriate industry benchmarks.

  • Analyzes and interprets multi-year financial statements; highlights key changes.

Analytical Thinking: Knowledge of techniques and tools that promote effective analysis; ability to determine the root cause of organizational problems and create alternative solutions that resolve these problems.
Level Extensive Experience:

  • Seeks discrepancies and inconsistencies in available information; explains variances.

  • Organizes and prioritizes the sequence of steps to be taken to remedy the situation.

  • Identifies many possible causes for a problem based on prior experience and current research.

  • Approaches a complex problem by breaking it down into its component parts.

  • Chooses among a diverse set of analytical tools according to the nature of the situation.

  • Quantifies the costs benefits risks and chances for success before recommending a course of action.

Risk Management: Knowledge of processes tools and techniques for assessing and controlling an organizations exposure to risks of various kinds; ability to apply knowledge of risk management appropriately to diverse situations.

  • Produces and interprets common risk assessment and management reports.

  • Identifies common technology security or financial risks relevant to own function or unit.

  • Implements or manages risk management for own area.

  • Documents the key steps of a unit-specific risk management process and associated procedures.

  • Evaluates risk assessment models and techniques relevant to a specific line of business.

Organizational Compliance: Knowledge of organizational compliance frameworks their purpose and risks of non-compliance; ability to design implement monitor and review organizational compliance policies and procedures.
Level Working Knowledge:

  • Updates documentation with current national and local organizational compliance regulations.

  • Assists in the enforcement of organizational compliance policies and procedures.

  • Researches regulatory changes that are critical to maintaining organizational compliance.

  • Describes internal sources for gathering data on non-compliant processes and behaviors.

  • Assists in identifying areas of organizational risk that may result in non-compliance.


Products and Services: Knowledge of major products and services and product and service groups; ability to apply knowledge of product and service appropriately to diverse situations.

  • Obtains information about product and service linkages with other products and services elsewhere in organization.

  • Researches the target market and how the product and services are sold and delivered.

  • Explains current status delivery alternatives and announced updates to products and services.

  • Summarizes key features of major products or services in own unit.

  • Assesses own units product alternatives costs and pricing.


Negotiating: Knowledge of successful negotiation concepts and techniques; ability to negotiate successfully across the organization and with external vendors and clients in a constructive and collaborative manner.

  • Works to achieve win-win in negotiations rather than taking a win-lose approach.

  • Focuses on issues rather than personalities.

  • Uses active listening and probing techniques to surface problems issues and interests.

  • Demonstrates a willingness to examine own position.

  • Presents own position and listens attentively to position of others.


Project Management: Knowledge of effective project management strategies and tactics; ability to plan organize monitor and control projects ensuring efficient utilization of technical and administrative resources to achieve project objectives.
Level Working Knowledge:

  • Provides input for Gantt or PERT charts or their equivalent to track project progress and status.

  • Under guidance plans and estimates simple projects.

  • Assists in detailed project plans including cost schedule and resource requirements.

  • Obtains information from stakeholders during the planning stage of a project.

  • Produces standard project status reports.
