As the Senior Materials Fire Testing Technician you will be responsible for managing NATA-accredited materials fire testing facilities ensuring ISO17025 compliance. You will also develop specialised test procedures design test rigs conduct fire tests and maintain equipment. This role requires strong technical expertise leadership and trade skills as it involves supervising staff enforcing OHS standards and supporting research projects.

The work area is a dynamic hands-on environmentthink large-scale furnaces biaxial test rigs and material testing equipment all set in a spacious modern facility designed for structural fire testing. Youll be surrounded by a collaborative team of researchers casual lab staff and students all working together to push the boundaries of fire safety science.
Youll get to flex your technical skills by designing test rigs developing new testing procedures and even doing some practical work like concrete coring 3D scanning or metalwork.
Youll report directly to the Fire Safety Research Groups line manager wholl support you in aligning the labs work with our broader research goals. Plus youll have the chance to connect with global research groups attend workshops and share your expertise across the university.
Conditions
This is a full-time 1-year fixed-term position at the HEP 10 classification with a salary of $137624 per annum plus 17% employer superannuation contributions working 36.75 (1.0 FTE) hours per week.

About You
As the Senior Materials Fire Testing Technician you will possess extensive expertise in construction fire research and building material testing alongside proficiency in maintaining laboratory quality control per ISO 17025 standards. We are looking for someone who demonstrates in-depth knowledge of national and international testing standards and is skilled in design work using Autodesk products. This role requires providing technical advice to staff and research students to resolve experimental issues managing an inventory of Fire Research equipment and ensuring its operational readiness. Youll need to effectively liaise with other organisational units and stakeholders as this is essential for information exchange and project collaboration. Youll also need to work collaboratively within the Fire Safety Research Group to support laboratory operations exhibit initiative in delivering high-level administrative and technical support and contribute to the groups research goals. Excellent communication skills are vital as is flexibility to conduct testing outside regular hours when approved by the university.
