Job Description Summary:
FITNESS INSTRUCTORJob Description:
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Group Instruction:
Teaches group fitness classes such as indoor cycling strength and cardio formats to participants of all ages from youth (ages 12 to older adults). May also teach specialized formats based on qualifications.
Provide a learning experience that is healthy positive enriching and emphasizes safety and the joy of movement.
Instructs and educates patrons on safe and proper movement and equipment use providing modifications and corrections as applicable.
Create classes where techniques are clearly communicated demonstrated and progress logically in interest and energy.
Distributes information to staff and patrons answers questions.
Share in responsibility of creating a welcoming and fun environment in respect to safety security inclusion stereo equipment maintenance cleanliness and temperature.
Performs related duties as to meet the needs of the Fitness and Parks and Recreation programs including accurate completion of all required paperwork.
Customer Service:
Provides excellent customer service to include answering customers questions maintaining a positive and friendly class environment and enforcing facility policies.
Teamwork:
Is an active part of the fitness team supporting and subbing for coworkers and arranges for substitutes if unable to teach.
Continues education in the field maintains certification(s) and job knowledge to remain current with trends teaching techniques and attends all in-house training and staff meetings.
Responsible for knowing and complying with all city and department policies; participating in professional trainings and development; and adhering to attendance and workplace attire policies.
Safety:
Takes proper safety precautions to ensure participant safety and prevent accidents. Is responsible for the safety of self others materials and equipment.
Uses all required safety equipment and follows all safety regulations policies and procedures.
Reports all accidents and damage to city property immediately (within 24 hours).
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Ability to teach group fitness and weight training classes to all age groups ages youth (ages 12) to older adults.
Have and maintain acceptable background information including criminal conviction history.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
College degree in exercise physiology kinesiology exercise science or related degree (preferred but not required).
Additional nationally recognized certification or training in addition to base certification.
Willingness and ability to work evenings and weekends as needed.
REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Current group fitness certification from: ACE NSCA AFAA ACSM AAAI/ISMA NEDITA ISSA NASM NFPT IFPA Certified Holistic Health and Well-Being Coach Barre Certification or any nationally recognized certification.
Current CPR/AED and First Aid certification.
Experience in weight and fitness class instruction.

WORKING CONDITIONS AND REQUIREMENTS
Physical and Mental Effort
Ability to perform a wide range of strenuous physical fitness skills. Sufficient clarity of speech and hearing or other communication capabilities that permits the employee to communicate effectively on the telephone and in person. Ability to work under stress from demanding deadlines public contact and changing priorities and conditions.
Work Environment
Works primarily in a clean comfortable environment. Works in a setting subject to continuous interruptions and background noises.
Machines and Equipment Used
Free weights various weight and exercise machinesfunctional equipment (kettle bells medicine balls resistance bands etc.)stereo and microphone equipment.
