Role: Construction Planner
Edmonds (Hybrid)
Construction planner will provide support to Construction Management divisions with early project planning deliverables as well as help support larger portfolio-level strategic planning activities.
Contract Duration: 12 months
Max INC Rate: $105
Max T4 Rate: $87

Experience and Role Accountabilities

A minimum fifteen (15) years of construction management experience or equivalent.
Manage the allocation of materials financial human resources by using excellent technical skills in construction methodologies estimating and contract management in support of delivering quality projects safely within budget and on time.
Ensure work site safety by prioritizing the safe execution of work by performing and giving feedback on Safe Work Observations using excellent knowledge in safety standards and regulations to improve BC Hydros safety performance.
Develop comprehensive mitigation plans by identifying analyzing and monitoring risks including reputational environmental safety and indigenous relations for effective risk management throughout the project lifecycle.
Contribute to stakeholder engagement by leading the public consultation process on construction activities using expert skills in communication principled negotiation and persuasive influencing so that projects are planned and implemented successfully.
Respond appropriately to internal and third-party construction inquiries and escalated issues using good working knowledge of project management and BC Hydro policies and procedures to maintain positive collaborative relationships with stakeholders and First Nations.
Act as a subject matter expert on committees and project teams and advising on complex technical issues to develop future capability at BC Hydro.
Assist the project team by performing various construction support activities such as supporting the management of claims and facilitating cross-functional team collaboration to successfully complete projects.

Education and Skills

Bachelors degree in Civil Electrical or Mechanical Engineering or equivalent
Good working knowledge of project management
Excellent working knowledge of safety standards and regulations such as Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) Standards and WorkSafe Regulations
Advanced English skills for professional environment written and spoken

We are seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented construction planner to join our team. The successful candidate will use their on-site experience to help assist the regional Construction Management divisions with specific early project planning deliverables as well as help support larger portfolio-level strategic planning activities. This role works collaboratively with stakeholders and leaders across BC Hydro to meet our business objectives corporate standards and policies.

This role is based in the Construction Planning Practice and Controls team within our Capital Construction business unit.

The ideal candidate will help support a diverse portfolio of projects supporting BC Hydros capital plan. Youll be responsible for developing early project-phase planning deliverables such as construction management plans constructability reviews supporting contract development and construction work package estimation. This role requires a keen eye for detail excellent organizational skills and the ability to work collaboratively with various stakeholders to mitigate risks and monitor schedule performance.

The successful candidate will work closely with other construction planners in the group as well as construction managers and other project team members.

Apply BC Hydro Construction and Contract Management (CCM) practice to provide early project planning and successfully identify and mitigate project risks relating to construction.
Ensures that all aspects of construction work and associated activities related to assigned projects are planned in accordance with BC Hydros PPM Practices and is carried out effectively in terms of safety quality schedule cost and scope.
Develop work package agreements in consultation with Capital Projects and Operations teams.
Provides leadership and ensures compliance with safety requirements.
Provide technical guidance and facilitate appropriate constructability reviews and oversight for projects as required.
Actively participate in procurement activities for complex high risk contracts by reviewing High Level Project Documents.
Be a Subject Matter Expert (SME) for BC Hydro Construction and Contract Management (CCM) Practice and BC Hydro Contracts for all phases of the project.
Work collaboratively with cross-functional teams for construction planning and for exchange of information.
Provide mentorship and knowledge-share with junior construction planners in the group.
Work with regional construction teams to identify planning requirements and ensure adequate resources are in place to meet multi-year project and program plans.
Identify & support improvements to CCM Practice especially as it relates to pre-construction planning activities.
Ability to travel to construction sites both within and outside of the region infrequently.
Extensive on-the-job experience & training without a formal degree or diploma will be considered.
