  • Job Title: Business Education Teacher (Full Time/1.0FTE)
    Reports to: Career and Technical Education Division Head
    Terms and Conditions: 10 months 183-day school year work calendar.
    Salary:Per Faculty Senate collective bargaining agreement
    FLSA Status: Exempt

    Certification Licensure Training:
    PEL Business Marketing and Computer Educationor ELS-CTE Business Management Finance or Marketing
    Previous high school Business Education teaching experience desireable

    Position Summary:
    The employee in this position will be responsible for developing a student-centered classroom in which all students are deeply engaged in our mission:

    • Enhance critical thinking and problem-solving abilities

    • Foster financial digital and business acumen

    • Foster entrepreneurial skills and innovative thinking

    • Collaborate effectively in business environments

    • Appreciate the value of business principles in our society

    Candidates with training and experience in project-based learning cooperative learning or other constructivist methods for teaching Business are preferred for this position. Furthermore candidates with experience designing and implementing lessons aligned with the Illinois Learning Standards for Business Education are encouraged to apply.

    Essential Duties: (Other duties may be assigned.)

    • Plan and instruct students on district Business curriculum aligned to Illinois Learning Standards and Common Core Standards.

    • Develop lesson plans and goals that meet district expectations.

    • Enrich or modify lessons curriculum materials and resources as needed to meet individual student needs and varying levels of progress.

    • Conduct formal and informal assessments to evaluate student progress. Administer standardized assessments as directed. Interpret student assessment data for application of instructional methods and monitoring of student progress.

    • Review student progress via assessments maintain records of student work and develop intervention strategies to ensure student success and growth.

    • Communicate verbally and in writing with parents and students regarding progress.

    • Meet regularly and work collaboratively with other departmental teachers and support teachers in planning equitable instruction across all classrooms on the same subject.

    • Meet regularly with support teachers teacher assistants and other support staff to discuss individual students modifications or adaptations ongoing learning issues interventions or problems. Work collaboratively to ensure individual students needs are met.

    • Assign work instructions or lessons to substitutes and/or student teachers.

    • Actively participate in various building and district teams or committees.

    • Set clear expectations for the class and manage the classroom and school environment applying positive behavioral supports and interventions as needed.

    • Collaborate with other staff in planning modifying enhancing and implementing curriculum and district objectives.

    • Collaborate with other staff and outside businesses to develop post-secondary pathways aligned to the Career and Technical Education framework that promotes career awareness exploration and planning.

    • Establish a safe atmosphere conducive to a positive learning environment.

    • Act as a role model by encouraging appropriate behaviors that lead to social emotional and physical development.

    • Enforce and support school policies philosophies and objectives with students and parents.

    • Participate in staff development and school improvement activities to maintain professional growth. Plan and incorporate best practices or new strategies.

    • Participate in events outside the regularly scheduled workday such as orientation open houses conferences and/or division meetings.

    • Observe the professional day and maintain positive professional relations with colleagues.

    • Hold high expectations for all students and demonstrate a deep belief that all students can learn and succeed.

    • Communicate openly with students staff parents and other stakeholders regarding students achievement and progress in the classroom.

    • Commit to equity and eliminating systemic obstacles for students of color.

    • Extend the school day for our students through supervision of extracurricular activities in Business Athletics and/or other activities.

    Job Responsibilities: (Other responsibilities may be assigned.)

    • Works within the policies and regulations of the OPRF; Illinois public acts and regulations as described by the Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE); and applicable Federal laws regulations and guidelines relevant to the education of high school students and staff.

    • Makes professional decisions demonstrating support for the mission goals and best interests of OPRF as expressed through Board of Education-approved documents including the Strategic Plan and Building Improvement Plans.

Operate electronic equipment; reach with hands and arms and will repeat actions with the same hand arm or finger motion; have vision abilities required including close vision and the ability to adjust focus (The ability to withstand long-term use of computer devices is needed.) to have occasional lifting carrying pushing and/or pulling and dexterity actions within job standards.

    Work Environment:
    The noise level in the work environment is usually low but it can be moderate on occasion. Work is usually conducted indoors.
