Job Description

SUMMARY

TheResource Room Teacher as a member of the special education teamprovides individualized support and instruction to students with disabilities or other learning may work with students in a dedicated resource room or within general education duties include designing and implementing individualized education plans (IEPs) modifying instruction and collaborating with other educators to ensure students needs are met.

The position reports to the Superintendent or his/her designee.

Location: Will L. Lee ELementary School and/or Richmodn Middle School

KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Individualized Instruction:

  • Work with small groups or individual students often pulling them from their regular classrooms for targeted instruction in areas like reading math or writing.


IEP Development and Implementation:

  • Develop and implement IEPs which outline a students specific learning needs and goals.
  • Adhere to all timelines and requirements of the IEP.


Collaboration:

  • Work closely with classroom teachers administrators and other specialists (like speech therapists or occupational therapists) to ensure students receive the appropriate support.
  • Communicate clearly with all appropriate stakeholders associated with the students on the assigned caseload (parents/guardians/administrators/teachers/advocates/therapists etc.)

Instructional Modification:

  • Adapt lessons and materials to meet the unique needs of students including those with learning disabilities emotional or behavioral needs or physical impairments.

Progress Monitoring:

  • Regularly assess and monitor student progress providing feedback to teachers and parents.

Transition Planning:

  • Assist students with transitioning to post-secondary education or employment teaching life skills and career-related knowledge as appropriate.


Managing a Safe Environment

  • Maintains and communicates standards of pupil behavior and classroom management expectations for the purpose of providing a safe and secure environment conducive to learning.
  • Coordinates monitors and efficiently moves students (individually or groups) to various locations within the educational setting for the purpose of ensuring student safety or order within the educational setting.


Record Keeping:

Maintains and reports required pupil accounting (PowerSchool) special education (TieNet) student achievement and inventory management record systems for the purpose of accurately collecting and reporting student demographic and achievement data and accounting of district resources/inventories.

Technology and Operations:

  • Utilizes and operates standard district/school technology (e.g. email telephone computer etc.) for the purpose of improved communications and job efficiencies.
  • Utilizes and operates standard district/school equipment (e.g. laminator copier audiovisual etc.) for the purpose of preparing resources to be utilized by students within the instructional setting.

Adherence to District Expectations:

  • Understands and implements Board of Education Policy Administrative Guidelines and organizational practices for the purpose of consistency and compliance.
  • Other duties may be assigned.


QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Certification

  • Valid Michigan Teaching Certificate with an endorsement in Special Education (SM preferred).

  • Highly Qualified status under Michigan and federal guidelines.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of best instructional practices in secondary mathematics education.

  • Strong classroom management skills and a commitment to fostering a positive learning environment.

  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills.

Experience and Skills

  • Experience in delivering reading and/or math interventions at the elementary level.

  • Strong understanding of early childhood development and instructional best practices.

  • Proficiency in using assessment tools and data to drive instruction.

  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills.

  • Ability to work effectively with diverse student populations and adapt instruction to meet individual needs.

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Full-time position (1.0 FTE).

  • Standard school hours with occasional evenings for meetings or events.

  • Work is performed in a school environment with frequent interaction with students staff and parents.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

To perform this job successfully an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read analyze and interpret general business periodicals professional journals technical procedures or governmental regulations. Ability to author reports business correspondence and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups staff parents and the general public.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts interest commissions proportions percentages area circumference and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.

REASONING ABILITY:

Ability to define problems collect data establish facts and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

OTHER SKILLS and ABILITIES:

Ability to apply knowledge of current research and theory in specific field. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students staff and the community. Ability to communicate clearly and concisely both in oral and written form. Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and Board of Education policies.

While performing the duties of this job the employee is regularly required to stand walk sit and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to reach with hands and arms and stoop kneel crouch or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to fifty pounds. COMPENSATION. The compensation is outlined by the collective bargaining agreement with the Richmond Education Association (REA).
