JOB SUMMARY:

This position plans and provides music instruction toelementarystudents based on state district and school curricula and requirements and based on the students social and other formative needs.

MINIMUM REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Valid Professional Utah Educator License and a Music (K-12 1-8 Elementary Music Specialist) endorsement a valid Utah Associate Educator license and a Music (K-12 1-8 Elementary Music Specialist) endorsement a valid Elementary Educator License and Music endorsement from another state that is transferrable to Utah or will complete a teaching program prior to the contract start date that will lead to a Professional Utah Educator License and a Music (K-12 1-8 Elementary Music Specialist) endorsement.
  2. Bachelors degree from an accredited college/university or will complete a bachelor degree program prior to the contract start date.
  3. Ability to provide beginning/intermediate vocal and instrumental music instruction for students in grades 4-6 using approved curriculum.
  4. Ability to track and maintain instrument inventory.
  5. Ability to plan and provide culturally relevant music lessons using a variety of musical styles.
  6. Ability to tailor lessons to meet the cultural and social needs of diverse student populations.
  7. Professional communication skills including but not limited to: excellent written and verbal communication skills in English; confident articulate and professional speaking abilities; and empathic listening and persuasive speaking skills.
  8. Maintain accurate records in a wide variety of manual and electronic documents files and records to provide up-to-date information and historical reference in accordance with established administrative guidelines and legal requirements.
  9. Strong team player with ability to work with colleagues to provide instruction and performance opportunities for students.
  10. Occasionally berequired to: roll push pull bend reach stoop and lift up to 30 pounds.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Ability to maintain and perform minor repairs on various instruments.
  2. Ability to provide basic general music instruction to grades K-6 using approved curriculum.
  3. Spanish Speaker: speaks reads writes and understands spoken Spanish.
  4. Have an ESL endorsement or will obtain one within 4 years of hire.
  5. Previous teaching experience.
  6. Knowledge of effective English Language Learners teaching practices; student social-emotional learning accelerated/extended learning programs and special needs students including laws and regulations of special education and 504 plans.

    4. Incorporates disciplinary-specific literacy skills into instruction to purposefully engage learners in interacting with content knowledge.
  2. Establishes a Classroom Climate Conducive to Learning
    1. Develops learning experiences that engage and support students as self-directed learners who internalize classroom routines expectations and procedures.
    2. Collaborates with students to establish a positive learning climate of openness respectful interactions support and inquiry.
    3. Utilizes positive classroom management strategies including the resources of time space and attention effectively.
  3. Provides Effective Instruction
    1. Bases instruction on accurate content knowledge using multiple representations of concepts and appropriate academic language.
    2. Practices a range of developmentally and culturally appropriate instructional strategies that engage and meet the needs of individuals and groups of learners.
    3. Provides multiple opportunities for students to develop higher-order and meta-cognitive skills.
    4. Supports and expands English language development and communication skills through reading writing listening and speaking.
    5. Uses a variety of available and appropriate technology and resources to support learning.
  4. Monitors Student Learning
    1. Allows students different ways to demonstrate learning sensitive to multiple experiences and diversity while holding high expectations.
    2. Uses both formative and summative data sources to assess the effectiveness of instruction and to make adjustments in planning and instruction.
    3. Documents student progress and provides descriptive feedback to students parent and other stakeholders in a variety of ways.
  5. Invest in Teaching Profession
    1. Collaborates with families colleagues and other professional to promote student growth and development.
    2. Adapts and improves practice based on reflection and new learning.
    3. Engages in learning experiences to enhance self and support others.
    4. Participates actively in decision-making processes while building a shared culture that affects the school and larger educational community.
    5. Advocates for the learner the school the community and the profession.
    6. Is responsible for compliance with federal and state laws State Board of Education administrative rules state assessment polices Salt Lake City School District board policies and supervisory directives.
    7. Is responsible for compliance with all requirements of State Board of Education Rule R277-530 Utah Effective Educator Standards at all levels to teacher development
  6. Is responsible for compliance with all requirements of State Board of Education Rule R277-515 Utah Educator Professional Standards.
  7. Maintain regular and predictable attendance to fulfill job requirements in an efficient and effective manner; required to attend activities events and meetings outside of normal work hours on a regular basis.
  8. Maintain professional workplace etiquette and represents the department/district in a professional manner; communicate effectively and efficiently with diverse groups of people while maintaining confidentiality and positive working relationships with co-workers students parents and other district employees.
  9. Demonstrates adaptability and understanding of cultural differences in working in a diverse environment while coping with stressful situations related to students and maintaining confidentiality.
  10. Work under limited supervision utilizing time-management and prioritization strategies accurately processing detailed information and meeting deadlines.
  11. Support a team environment by collaborating withothers to effectively perform the duties of the position.
  12. Perform other related duties as assigned to ensure the efficient and effective operations of the school(s).

WORK ENVIRONMENT& PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  1. This is an itinerant (traveling) position and requires theteacherto travel and deliver instruction at FIVE different elementary schools. Teacher must provide their own transportation but can seek mileage reimbursement.
  2. Risks found in the typical work environment which is adequately lighted heated and ventilated e.g. safe use of office equipment avoiding trips and falls observing fire regulations.
  3. Typically the employeewill be on their feet most of the teaching day. Additionallythere will be some walking standing bending carrying light items etc
