POSITION DESCRIPTION

TITLE: Emergency Response Project Coordinator Detention Documentation Specialist

JOB CATEGORY: Non-Exempt (Hourly)

STATUS: Part-Time 15 hours per week through September 30 2025

TYPE OF EMPLOYMENT: Temporary

DIRECT SUPERVISOR: Migration Director US Programs

REGION/UNIT: CENTRAL OFFICE

LOCATION: Remote

GENERAL SUMMARY OF POSITION

As part of AFSCs emergency response to an escalation of detention and deportation of immigrants the specialist will support efforts to locate people in the aftermath of detention communicating with government offices and family members to determine where they were taken. They will develop tools to document the impact of immigration detention including the process in which people are detained the transfers and lack of communication and write a report at the end of the consultancy.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS / RESPONSIBILITIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES

Locating people in detention

  • Upon request from AFSC program staff use online locator tools and make phone calls to determine the location of community members who have been detained by ICE.

Documentation

  • Develop and implement tools to document specific human rights violations related to detention and transfers of people in immigration detention
  • Develop a final report that highlights the impact of immigration detention transfers and disappearances on individuals and their loved ones.
  • Regular attendance and punctuality are required.
  • Operates safely in all conditions and follows policies and procedures.
  • Other duties and projects as assigned.

SUPERVISORY / MANAGEMENT REQUIREMENTS

MINIMUM EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelors degree or equivalent work experience preferred.
  • Minimum 2 years experience in immigrant rights field required.
  • Experience and understanding of the immigration detention system is preferred.
  • Experience and understanding of tools to document human rights abuses.
  • Strong analytic and writing skills.
  • Ability to work evenings and/or weekends and to travel as
  • Ability to work effectively independently and within a team environment.
  • Experience with standard Microsoft Office and related technology.
  • Must be capable of working under tight time constraints in a high-volume environment with multiple priorities.
  • Demonstrated ability to work and communicate with diverse staff.

COMPENSATION

This position is a non-exempt position. Salary Family: Program Job Code Program Assistant Hourly Starting hourly rate is $25 per hour. There are no medical dental or life insurance benefits short-term or long-term insurance benefits with this position. AFSC does participate in unemployment workers compensation and social security.
