Job Description

Position:High School Piano Teacher/Accompanist

Part-Time

English Station Campus

Job Description

Christian Academy of Louisville (English Station Campus) seeks a skilled pianist to join the music department team. The part-time piano teacher/accompanist will teach our Group Piano 1 class for our School of the Arts as well accompanying various choirs during rehearsals.

Scope

The Classroom Teacher will be the spiritual leader in the classroom by modeling prayer and love toward students in a Christ-like manner. He/she will effectively plan and execute lessons with appropriate strategies for student mastery of content. The teacher will recognize that all students learn differently and will implement motivating and engaging learning strategies designed to meet the needs of all learners. This method of teaching will contribute to students development as mature able and responsible Christian men and women to the praise and glory of God. He/she will also manage /monitor student learning in an encouraging classroom environment that allows for students to grow in depth of knowledge. The teacher will engage in professional development training and collaborative learning opportunities for growth in professional relationships and growth in his/her craft of teaching. Piano skills are a necessity for this position.

Qualifications

The candidate shall possess characteristics that reflect:

  • A strong clear Christian testimony with a mature and godly spirit
  • A daily example of the highest Christian virtue both in and out of school
  • Commitment to faithful attendance and support of a church whose beliefs are in agreement with the Statement of Faith

The ideal candidate shall possess the following:

  • Bachelors degree required in a Music/Piano related field
  • Ability and preferred experience to teach piano in both an individual and group setting.
  • Ability and preferred experience in accompanying choirs
  • Experience with and basic knowledge of choral music
  • High level of sight-reading and improvisatory abilities
  • Ability to work collaboratively with others
  • Possess good organizational and communication skills

Anticipated time Commitment

  • 2-3 days per week based on the weekly schedule of the High Schools alternating schedule to plan instruct and lead our Group Piano 1 class.
  • On the days scheduled for group piano the accompanist will be expected to accompany the choirs during that day.
  • Occasional alternate days will be expected to come in and accompany the alternate day choirs in preparation for their concerts. On those days the accompanist will only be expected to teach their Group Piano class on the following day.
  • 4-6 evening performances for our HS/MS Choir Concerts
  • Additional time may be required for performances consisting of but not limited to Baccalaureate Graduation or special event concerts planned well in advance.

Spiritual Leadership:

  • Intentionally integrates Biblical values and morals
  • Understands and implements the Matthew 18 principle with students parents peers and administration in an appropriate manner
  • Assess students spiritual leads them in spiritual growth
  • Leads students in daily prayer and devotions
  • Models a consistent relationship with Jesus Christ

Instructional Planning & Preparation:

  • Demonstrates knowledge of content and pedagogy (the art and science of teaching and piano)
  • Designs lessons with clear focused and measurable instructional objectives
  • Objectives provide for deliberate skill development in the high order thinking processes

Instructional Delivery:

  • Demonstrates Biblical integration and Christian worldview
  • Establishes learning expectations with well-defined openings
  • Guides students to apply learning to real-world applications
  • Implements a variety of strategies to introduce explain and restate subject matter concepts
  • Selects a variety of instructional aids methods and materials that will provide for creative teaching to reach the whole childspiritual intellectual physical social and emotional
  • Employs a variety of questioning techniques that enhances critical thinking

Professionalism and Communication

  • Communicates in a positive clear manner and uses accurate grammar and spelling in written form
  • Uses Canvas for classes and communication
  • Represents the school in a favorable and professional manner
  • Maintains timely and accurate student records/grades in Renweb and submits weekly lesson plans
  • Communicates with families about students progress on a regular basis and responds to family/student concerns in a timely and appropriate manner
  • Maintains teachable spirit and assumes responsibility for actions
  • Maintains confidentiality and supports listens and views school success as a team effort

Compensation

This is considered a part-time salaried position with the compensation of $15000.00/year. There will be many opportunities for the hiree to seek supplemental income by accompanying our many solo performers playing for our yearly musical and/ or teaching piano lessons and using Christian Academy as your studio home.

The expectation is for this position to grow into a full-time position within the next 4-5 years. This will be done by growing the Group Piano program for our School of the Arts into an all inclusive track for our School of the Arts students including Group Piano classes 1 2 3 and 4 and by creating a performance track within our School of the Arts program with piano as the students primary instrument.

Reporting Relationships

The part time Piano Teacher-Accompanist will report to the School of the Arts Director and be overseen by the High School Principal.
